Bail a champion out of ‘Jail’

Posted

Evan Huddon, 14, of Warwick will be in “jail” at the Wal-Mart on Bald Hill Rd. in Warwick this Sunday Feb. 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. But then he’ll be free. The “bail money” he will have raised will go to the fundraiser “Race to 20K” that he has agreed to do for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Evan was born with Spina Bifida, a birth defect that has left him paralyzed from the waist down. His first operation at Hasbro Children’s Hospital was at 38 hours old. The neurosurgeon and team operated for more than eight hours. Many kids with Spina Bifida also have what is called Hydrocephalus, or water on the brain, so at a week old, Evan had his first brain surgery to drain the excess fluid by placing a shunt. Within the first 8 months of life, Evan underwent seven surgeries. To date, Evan has had a total of 21 surgeries at Hasbro. Each and every time Evan is admitted to the hospital he says he feels like a VIP at a 5 star hotel. Evan had the honor of being chosen as 2011 Children’s Miracle Network Champion. He represented Hasbro Children’s Hospital when he traveled to Florida and Washington, D.C. and he wants to continue to give back to the place where miracles happen. If you can’t make it to Wal-Mart and want to donate online, the website is giving.lifespan.org/EvansjourneywithHCH.
