Posted

Two men are in custody in connection with the Wednesday robbery of the Santander Bank branch at 555 Reservoir Ave., Cranston police announced Friday afternoon, and tips received from the public following the release of surveillance photos are being credited for the quick apprehension of the suspects.

Jared Seigel, 21, of 185 Vermont Ave. in Providence, and Robert Burns, 42, of 151 Leigh St. in Warwick, are both charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Burns is additionally charged with possession of heroin.

“The use of social media and the cooperation of the public has again assisted investigators with quickly identifying and locating these two felons responsible for this robbery,” reads a release from Acting Chief Kevin M. Barry. “The Cranston Police Department is thankful for the received tips and encourages the public to continue to assist law enforcement with investigations.”

Officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at the bank at approximately 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Seigel is alleged to have entered the bank and handed a note to an employee that demanded money and indicated he was armed with a handgun. Burns is alleged to have conspired with Seigel and waited outside the bank in a vehicle.

Police said no handgun was recovered at the time of the arrests.

The investigation, being conducted by the Cranston Police Detective Bureau and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, remains ongoing.
