Baritone Rene de la Garza, artistic director of Opera Providence and also the director of the Opera Workshop program at the University of Rhode Island, is headed to Thailand to sing solo concerts, but before he goes he will offer the public here a preview of his concert program, with free admission. “The Bangkok Recital” is set for Saturday, January 5 at 8 p.m., to be held in the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston.
The concert will include songs by composers Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert, Piotor Ilyich Tchaikowsky, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy, Jacques Ibert, Charles Ives, Aaron Copland, Jerome Kern and Cole Porter. Accompanied by pianist Laura Hibbard, de la Garza will be singing in German, Russian, French and English.
The acclaimed soloist and educator will perform at the Goethe Institute and a university to be determined in Bangkok, Thailand. His accompanist there will be Shuenda Wong, a highly-noted Malaysian pianist and solo performer.
