Mayor Scott Avedisian joined city’s Wildlife and Conservation Commission for an Arbor Day tree planting ceremony yesterday with kindergarteners from the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center. The event included remarks by Anne Holst, chairwoman of the commission, a song by the students, a reading of a poem by Commissioner Henry Brown and the planting of the dogwood at the center. Also at the event, Avedisian and Councilman Charles “CJ” Donovan recognized Edwin T. “Ned” Drew, who was the recent recipient of the Fogarty-Olean Advocacy Award. The award was established in March 2013 by state Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals Director Craig Stenning to honor “a person who has made a significant contribution to improving the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.” Drew has spent 50 years as a volunteer and advocate for the Trudeau Center, and has been on its Board of Directors since 1981.
