Beloved principal memorialized with apple tree at Wyman

On Friday afternoon, a crowd gathered in front of Wyman Elementary School to honor former Principal Judith Daniel, who passed away in March 2013, with the planting of an apple tree in front of the school.

Former and current teachers, students, parents, family and friends all gathered for the ceremony, which included a performance from the Wyman chorus, remarks from Director of Elementary Education Robert Bushell and Representative Joseph McNamara, and representatives from each grade coming up to share their fondest memories of the caring and compassionate principal.

“She was the kind of principal everyone wants for their kids. Everything she did, no matter what, was for the kids,” said Bushell.

Daniel’s son, Brad, also attended the ceremony and encouraged students to always follow his mother’s example because it would lead them down the right path. He said the show of support and the memorial apple tree was a testament to the Wyman and Warwick community.

“To me, this is just incredible,” said Brad. “As for the tree itself, it’s a stand of time. When it blooms, with little white flowers, it will just look beautiful.”

While everyone had their own unique memories of Daniel, everyone agreed she was kind, compassionate and giving to all families at Wyman, especially those in need.
