The Arthritis Foundation will hold its 2nd Annual “Better Living with Arthritis Expo,” Rhode Island’s premier arthritis learning event, Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Radisson Airport Hotel, 2081 Post Rd., Warwick. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and the program will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The expo is ideal for people who have doctor-diagnosed arthritis, who have symptoms or risk factors and those who care about them. The program is supported, in part, by Gold Sponsor Genentech.

The program includes two keynote talks on managing multiple illnesses and promising research and four break-out sessions given by expert speakers on topics including integrative therapies for arthritis, how health care reform can help people with arthritis, what’s new in knee and hip surgery, and how to speak about arthritis with your elected officials. When participants are not engaged in a presentation, the expo will offer interactive demonstrations and exhibitors with health screenings and giveaways.

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in Rhode Island and the U.S., affecting 218,000 Rhode Islanders and 50 million people nationally. Arthritis pain and disability make it hard to accomplish daily activities, ruin relationships and destroy quality of life. Occurring in over half of those with diabetes and heart disease, arthritis is also a barrier to the effective control of these diseases.

The good news is that never have there been so many options for controlling and even preventing arthritis. The Arthritis Foundation’s Better Living with Arthritis Expo will showcase some of these options and local experts, services and products that can help.

The seminar is free and open to the public. There is a modest $8 charge for a boxed lunch for those who wish to pre-order at the time of registration. Registration is required by Friday, Nov. 8. Register by calling the Arthritis Foundation at 739-3773.
