Big Apple Circus coming to Charlestown

The All-New 35th Anniversary season production of the Big Apple Circus is coming to Ninigret Park in Charlestown June 22 to July 7 for 24 performances.

We have been there almost every year, bringing our children and then grandchildren to enjoy the wonders of this fabulous one-ring circus, where every seat is close to the action.

There is always something new at Big Apple, and although we will miss Grandma, one of the world’s greatest clowns, we will now be treated to The Acrobuffos, a husband and wife clown team.

This year’s theme is “Legendarium: A Journey Into Circus Past.” And what a past it has been for this spectacular circus based in-where else-the Big Apple. A solo trapeze act from Bulgaria. The all-female Dalian Acrobatic Troupe from China. Jugglers from France and the Netherlands. These are but a few of the talented international stars. You won’t see caged lions or elephants, but you will see horses, ponies and dogs do amazing feats.

The air-conditioned circus tent rises high above the park, and many of the performers swing and sway high above the audience, while some are close enough to reach out and touch. There’s a ringmaster and a live band, plus a variety of clowns to keep the show moving at a fast pace.

Big Apple is an annual event for the Fowler family, and we can’t wait until it lights up Charlestown.

Tickets start at $15, making it accessible to families. The show runs for two hours with a 15-minute intermission. The tent is wheelchair accessible. Group rates are available. Call 1-800-922-3772 for tickets or more information.
