Big bite out of hunger
John Howell

Thanks to a FirstFruits Marketing of Washington program and Dave’s Marketplace, 20,000 pounds of Granny Smith apples were delivered yesterday to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Grown in 13,000 acres of orchards in Washington, picked last fall and stored in controlled atmosphere rooms until shipped, the apples will go to needy families across the state. FirstFruits aims to distribute 1 million pounds of apples to food banks throughout the country as part of its Take a Bite Out of Hunger Program. Sampling the shipment is Ed Forte, Dave’s production merchandiser. His verdict – delicious and a wonderful way to help those who can use some help.
