Big second half lifts Vets over Pilgrim

Just over a week after meeting in league play, the Pilgrim and Warwick Vets girls’ basketball team found themselves together again on Saturday in the second round of the Coventry Credit Union Holiday Classic. The result was the same, with Vets posting a 43-35 victory over Pilgrim. The ’Canes had won the regular-season meeting 39-20.

Casey Bennett led the charge this time with 16 points and Emily Almonte added 10. The ’Canes led 23-21 at halftime but out-scored the Pats by six in the second half on their way to the victory. Katelyn Reph had 11 points to lead the Pats.

Vets, which beat West Warwick in the first round of the holiday event, is now 5-2 overall. Pilgrim dropped to 0-6.
