Bill Clinton to campaign for Hillary at CCRI

Former President Bill Clinton will make an appearance at the Community College of Rhode Island in Warwick today at noon to promote the candidacy of his wife, Hillary. And, depending on his schedule, he may follow that with a stop at Tommy’s Pizza in Cranston at the invitation of House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello.

With an estimated turnout of 1,000 to 2,000 people, the community college seemed the most appropriate place to hold the event, said Representative Joseph M. McNamara, chairman of the state Democratic Party. The event is free of charge and is open to the public with doors opening at 11:30 a.m.

President Clinton will be discussing what qualities and experiences make Hillary a good candidate. Clinton’s different positions have granted her the opportunities to travel the world and speak upon her views, such as women’s rights and human rights, said McNamara.

“She understands the complexities and politics of where today’s world stands in contrast with the leading Republican candidate said McNamara. She possesses “emanating qualities in experience and knowledge in policies and getting things done…definitely knowledge,” he added. “She is personable, has a sense of humor and the ability to lead and work with congress.”

Not only is size what makes CCRI a convenient venue for President Clinton’s visit, but it is also a draw for college students, which Hillary Clinton, according to McNamara, believes possess a right to education and training as postgraduates.

“This is apparent in Rhode Island,” says Rep. McNamara. “Forty percent of the jobs being offered in Rhode Island require post-secondary degree certification and will lead to 70 percent in the coming years.”

According to Larry Berman, spokesman for Mattiello, President Clinton is expected to stop in at Tommy’s Pizza after speaking at CCRI, “if his schedule permits.”

As for Republican Donald Trump, a visit to Rhode Island is up in the air.

Trump’s Rhode Island Honorary Chairman, Joseph Trillo, said yesterday that reports an appearance had been canceled because of threats of riots “is not true.”

“There’s still a very good chance that he will be coming before the primary,“ he said.
