To the Editor:
Two years ago today was the last day I saw you alive. You died on Nov. 11, 2013.
My mind goes through those last few minutes daily. You were laughing and shadow boxing me – such a bittersweet memory.
When I drive by the lot where I was “trying” to teach you to drive, a big smile fills my face then turns to uncontrollable sobs – bittersweet.
When I think of going in your room and dumping water on you to get you up, a chuckle will come out of me and the next breath will be a loud and piercing cry – bittersweet.
Your room is the way you left it (except, I cleaned it). The thoughts in my mind are so vivid. I lose my breath at times and have to sit down, memories – bittersweet.
I love and miss you, Brian. I hope whoever is in charge of us grants one of my impossible thoughts.
I will see you soon. Time goes on forever, so any number of years is soon. I love you, my son, and I’m proud to say it that way. I know you knew that, I just can’t express it to you face-to-face any more – so bittersweet.
We love you.
