Bluegrass star lineup at Rhodes

Bluegrass fans will be “Celebrating America’s Music on America’s Birthday,” according to the promoters of the 1st Annual Bluegrass on the Pawtuxet Festival.

The village will be the scene of master class workshops, outdoor acoustic music and jamming, family fun activities, a farmers market, craft stalls and more this July 4-6.

Friday and Saturday nights will feature award-winning national and regional bluegrass musicians at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet.

We checked out the groups on the Internet and through the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance, and can vouch for their qualifications.

Blue Highway is a Grammy nominated and multi-award winning contemporary bluegrass band, considered one of the most esteemed and influential groups around today.

Steeldrivers are a Grammy nominated, chart topping, IBMA award winning bluegrass/country band.

Tony Trishka & Great Big World is renowned worldwide. Trishka is considered one of the most influential banjo players in roots music.

Pete & Joan Wernick are famous for their music camps since 1980. Pete was the first president of the International Bluegrass Association (1986-2001), and is known for his own banjo musical style called Niwot Music.

The Carter Brothers are a Nashville duo, born and raised into a rich musical heritage in North Carolina, and relatives of the infamous Carter Family.

George Harper is a Nashville singer/songwriter who is referred to as “soulful and insightful, touching everything from country to bluegrass, plus some stompin’ blues.”

Suzahn Fiering is a songwriter and internationally renowned singer/guitarist/

educator.

Kropp Dusters are from Rhode Island and nearby states, with members from the well-known Northern Lights.

Other groups will also be playing at Rhodes and throughout the village and Aspray Park.

Seats for the indoor concerts at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet are $35 ($65 for both nights). Doors open at 5 p.m., with the performances beginning at 6 p.m. Music and songs from Bluegrass musicians will be included in the 9 a.m. service at Trinity Church.

Over a dozen workshops will be held at a cost of $15 per workshop or $25 for an unlimited pass.
