Blues icon Robert Cray returning to Park Theatre

He’s a five-time Grammy winner credited with reinventing the Blues with his razor sharp guitar playing, and on Friday, March 21, iconic guitarist Robert Cray will take the stage of the historic Park Theatre in Cranston with the Robert Cray Band for what promises to be an unforgettable concert event.

Called one of the greatest guitarists of his generation by Rolling Stone magazine, Cray’s musical genius is responsible for introducing a new generation of mainstream rock fans to the language of the blues with the release of “Strong Persuader” in 1986. Since the release of this groundbreaking album, Cray has gone on to record 15 Billboard charting studio albums that have sold millions of copies around the globe.

Cray’s most recent album, “Nothin’ But Love,” represents his first collaboration with super-producer Kevin Shirley. The 10-song masterpiece blends blues, rock, soul and jazz with a lyric-sheet that examines the triumphs, fallouts and follies of life and love while capturing the energy that makes Cray one of music’s most in-demand artists.

A recent inductee to the Blues Hall of Fame at age 57 – one of the youngest living legends to receive the prestigious honor – Cray has performed alongside blues titans B.B. King and Buddy Guy while touring extensively with music icon Eric Clapton and jamming live with Keith Richards throughout his award-winning career. And while it would be easy for Cray to look back over an astonishing three-decade career punctuated by his trademark sound and 15 Grammy nominations, he is too busy moving forward on a journey that includes another world tour and the upcoming release of a new album in spring 2014.

Robert Cray Band will perform at the Park Theatre at 8 p.m. March 21. Tickets are $35 and $45 and available by calling the Box Office at 467-7275 or online at www.ParkTheatreRI.com. The Park Theatre is located at 848 Park Avenue, Cranston. Free parking is available for all shows.
