Boyajian honored as a standout Armenian athlete

Warwick Vets senior T.J. Boyajian will be honored as one of Rhode Island’s Outstanding Armenian Athletes of the Year on Friday at the Saints Sahag and Mesrob Armenian Church Sports Scholarship banquet. The 44th annual event will be held at Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Church, 70 Jefferson Street, Providence, with social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p .m.

Boyajian is one of three recipients of the Charles Yaghoobian, Jr. Memorial Award, joining Matthew D’Antuono of Burrillville High School and Kristin Gallagher of Coventry. The award recognizes the state’s best Armenian high-school athletes.

Awards for outstanding performance in high school sports will be given to eight other athletes, including Warwick Vets’ Jami Derderian. A special recognition award will be handed out to Martin Yarumian, head soccer coach at Bay View.

Roth grabs fifth place at national qualifier

Fencers from the Rhode Island Fencing Academy & Club (RIFAC) in East Providence competed in the Division II/III national qualifying fencing tournament held at Boston Fencing Club in Waltham, Mass. from April 6-7. Josh Roth from Warwick scored a fifth-place medal in Men's Epee and secured a spot in Division II competition. Josh will continue to train at RIFAC in anticipation of Summer Nationals, scheduled this year for early July in Columbus, Ohio.
