It’s said that patience is a virtue, and it helped Hendricken’s Tom Grizzetti become one of the top cross country athletes in the state.
The future University of New Hampshire athlete took second place at the RIIL Cross Country State Championships, and Hawks’ head coach Jim Doyle attributes that success to Grizzetti’s work ethic.
“Here’s a guy that was very good at knowing pace and understood fully that he had to be patient, so much so that in the state tournament he was able to come out with a second place finish in the most talented field,” Doyle said.
Grizzetti showed his strengths as a captain this season, and exceeded expectations in that respect as well. Doyle said Grizzetti took the time to help younger runners get better, which could pay dividends in the future.
“[He is] one of the captains of the team and displayed some great leadership skills in leading his team,” Doyle said. “He certainly was above and beyond what we expected of him. Not only as a runner but as a leader. Tried to help his underclassmen improve.”
