Boys' Cross Country

Athlete of the Year - Dom Parlato, Hendricken

Posted

There wasn’t a more consistent boys’ cross country runner in the city than Bishop Hendricken senior Dom Parlato.

Parlato was a runner that was completely dedicated to his craft, putting in a lot of hours to continually get better.

“In my mind, it was quite impressive,” Hendricken head coach Jim Doyle said of Parlato’s career. “He was someone who came in with a tremendous work ethic and was determined to succeed. He was a decent freshman when he came to us, but he just gradually progressed from year to year. He believed in the process and worked to get better.”

Going into the state race late in the fall, Parlato was set to face an extremely tough field of runners, maybe the toughest the state has ever seen.

But Parlato was able to bear down and earn a fifth-place finish to cement his spot on the All-State team.

Doyle noted that accomplishment is one Parlato should be proud of as he continues his running career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in the fall.

“He faced the toughest field in the history of Rhode Island, but was able to secure a spot on the All-State team,” Doyle said.

Parlato’s work ethic certainly shined after he had an offseason shoulder operation, making it possible that he may not be ready for the cross country season.

However, Parlato worked himself back into shape, and ultimately proved to be one of the top runners in the state.
