Athlete of the Year - Pat Creamer, Hendricken

After a standout freshman season last year, Pat Creamer really stepped up his game for the Bishop Hendricken hockey team this winter.

The Hawks came up short in the state title series against La Salle, falling to the Rams, 2-1, in a three-game series.

However, that end result of the Hawks’ season didn’t take anything away from the season that Creamer had – a season in which the forward led Division I in points with 32.

“As far as goal production, he had a great year,” Hendricken head coach Jim Creamer said of his top line forward and son. “That top line produced for us all year long.”

Pat Creamer was second in Division I in goals and assists, respectively, with 16 in each category.

When a player paces a team offensively, they may be expected to provide some leadership, no matter what grade they’re in.

But Pat Creamer didn’t have to do that this year, in large part because Hendricken had nine seniors that stepped up and provided tremendous leadership.

Because Pat Creamer didn’t have to take on the weight of being a leader, it allowed him to just play his game, and it showed on the score sheet every night.

“In a sense, Pat really didn’t have to be a leader so he could go out there and play his game,” Jim Creamer said.

Pat Creamer spearheaded that top line alongside junior Reilly Miller and fellow sophomore Andrew Hopgood. Miller finished fourth in D-I with 23 points, while Hopgood concluded the season fourth in goals with 12.

Pat Creamer will headline that same top line next winter, as the trio is set to return with the hopes of regaining the crown.

“That whole first line is returning, so we’ll have all three of those kids back next year,” Jim Creamer said. “It’s great from a coaching perspective and it’s a nice comfort level to have.”

Pat Creamer helped to send the Hawks to the state championship with four goals in two games in the Hawks’ semifinal series against Mount St. Charles.
