Bishop Hendricken’s Chad Doorley is this year’s Warwick Beacon Boys’ Tennis Player of the Year.
Just a freshman, Doorley burst onto the scene as one of Hendricken’s top singles players on the court this spring.
As a team, the Hawks made it all the way to the Division I semifinals, defeating East Greenwich in the quarterfinals before falling to the eventual state champion – South Kingstown.
In the Division I singles main draw, Doorley had the best finish of anyone at Hendricken, and within the city.
The freshman made it all the way to the singles quarterfinals before being forced out of the draw by Smithfield’s Sam Miller, who defeated Doorley 6-2, 6-1.
Although Doorley probably fell short of his goal, he will have three more chances at a state title.
Because of Doorley’s youth, his high school career, and the Hawks’ future look to be very bright.
