Brewer marinas re-organization designed to streamline operations

Posted

So as to make it easier for their customers and eliminate confusion, Brewer Yacht Yard Group has combined its four Warwick marinas into two for the purposes of service, contact information and billing.

The reorganization that became effective Jan. 1 has Greenwich Bay marinas as Brewer Cowesett Marina North and South. The Warwick Cove yards of Greenwich Bay North and East are now the new Brewer Greenwich Bay Marina.

“We’re trying to make it as seamless as possible for our customers,” James Phyfe, vice president of Brewer Yacht Yard Group, said in a telephone interview last Tuesday. He explained that when Brewers bought the three yards from Lee Raymond, they continued to exist as separate companies even though some personnel were working at more than one yard. This made for different work orders and phone numbers and for confusion.

With 1,200 slips between the four yards, Brewers is the largest marina owner and operator in the city. The company employs about 45 full time employees; a number almost doubles during the boating season.

Chris Ruhling, who has held many leadership positions within the Brewer organization, will be the General Manager at the new Brewer Greenwich Bay Marina, and Matt St. Angelo and Greg Bartoszuk will share management responsibilities at the newly expanded Brewer Cowesett Marina North and South.

“We’re not changing ownership,” Phyfe emphasized. The re-organization won’t mean a change in rates either. Phyfe said slip rates, depending on amenities, at Cowesett range from $90 to $130 a foot. The rates at the Warwick Cove yards are slightly less at $70 to $120.

“By realigning these two great operations into geographic entities that can better focus on their inherent strengths, we believe we can offer even more to customers at all of our Warwick locations,” Rives Potts, President of Brewer Yacht Yard Group said in a release.

Based on the level of winter storage and what he sees as an improving economy, Phyfe is looking forward to a strong 2015 boating season.
