Buckeye Brook Coalition ‘ride the tide’ paddle tour set June 28

Posted

Finally, it’s almost summer. The days are getting warmer, which means the water is, too. June is recognized as R.I. Rivers month. To celebrate, the Buckeye Brook Coalition is inviting kayakers and canoeists to paddle the lower Buckeye Brook and a portion of upper Narragansett Bay.

This year’s paddle tour on Saturday, June 28, starting at 8:30 a.m., will likely take three to four hours to complete. The group will travel along the coastline and proceed up the brook.

After traversing the brook the group will take a short 15-minute pit stop to stretch legs and have a chance for a bathroom break. They will then proceed to Narragansett Bay to explore some of the bay’s rocky coast, then complete the trip returning to the launch site.

Advanced registration is required. Experience with paddling in open bay water and rivers is essential. Proper safety gear, especially a life jacket, are required. Participants must provide there own canoe or kayak (no paddle boards). Bring lots of water and sun protection.

Those interested are asked to call coalition president Paul Earnshaw at 739-6592 or email him at brookeye10@gmail.com to get all the details and to be screened for ability to participate.
