The City Council will hold public hearings in City Council Chambers, 3275 Post Road, relative to the mayor’s proposed $288.8 million budget, which calls for a 23-cent increase in the residential tax rate, this week. Those interested in attending are advised of the following:
The first public hearing will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (May 29), followed by a second session beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday (May 30). The third session will be held beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday (May 31).
The schedule listing the order in which departments will be heard is posted on the Secretary of State’s website, at City Hall, the police station, and the main library on Sandy Lane.
If the council completes the hearings on Saturday, it may vote on adoption of the budget at a meeting on Monday, June 2, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
If the council does not complete the hearings on Saturday, a fourth session will be held beginning on Sunday, June 1, at 10 a.m., with a meeting to vote on adoption of the budget slated to begin on Tuesday, June 3, at 5:30 p.m.
In order to comply with Open Meetings regulations, all of these dates have been posted in public buildings and on the Secretary of State’s website. Residents are advised that cancellation notices of any of these dates will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website, and on the doors of City Hall, the police station, and the main library on Sandy Lane as the budget process progresses.

Since I know the captain will be there maybe he can explain the 2,200,000 in rescue revenue in the budget year after year he thinks does not exist...

Fiscal 2014 Revenue Budget, Line item 03-525 Rescue Services Fees, page 81 of the Fiscal 2015 Budget: Projected revenue $2,100,000
Fiscal 2014 Fire Department total projected overtime, page 35 and 36 of the Fiscal 2015 Budget, $1,872,500.
If we take into consideration FICA and Medicare expense on the overtime amount, it's basically a breakeven.

I'm not talking about breaking even. Rob said my statement was "completely incorrect". I guess he doesn't get the internet in the woods where he hides taking pictures. Bob, do you know that a good portion of that OT is from a federal training grant. The city does not incurr that cost.

I did notice that the city does not budget any more for fire trucks even though 4 engines need immediate replacement and two ladder trucks are almost 20 years old. Why is a city of our size continuously borrowing trucks from other much smaller cities.
