Tri-City Elks

Car shows continue every Thursday. Next car show is June 9 and will continue each Thursday throughout the summer. The car show is being held in the back of the lodge near the Tiki Bar. Come show off your car and enjoy music by Bob Caramante. Have a cold beverage at the Tiki Bar and maybe a sandwich for dinner.

Steak fry takes place June 10 at 6 p.m. There will be steak, antipasto, little necks, sausage and baked potato. Tickets are limited; purchase them by June 6 in the lounge, Monday through Thursday after 3 p.m. or Friday through Sunday after 12 noon.

Roger Ceresi & The All Starz return June 11. Music starts at 8:15 p.m. Entrance fee is $12 per person.

The Senders are playing June 25 at 9:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $6 per person.

Country line dance lessons are back. Classes will be held every Monday with instructor Paul. Classes are $6 per person, and proceeds will go to Elk charities. Come and meet Paul and enjoy learning country line dancing.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

Tai Chi Teacher to Lead RI Workshop

Annual Conimicut Village Yard Sale

Dog Walk

The Pet Refuge, a no-kill, non-profit Animal Shelter located on 500 Stony Lane, North Kingstown, is holding their 10th Annual Dog Walk June 12 rain or shine at Goddard Memorial State Park in Warwick. Registration begins at 12 noon at the carousel. The one-mile hike begins at 1 p.m. Registration Fee is $20 on the day of the walk, pre-registration before June 12 is $15. Walkers without dogs are welcome. Registered walkers receive lunch and refreshments at the end of the walk. There will be raffles with great items. Come join us for a fun event for a wonderful cause. Paws for Cause

The 9th Annual Cause for Paws classic car show will take place June 12 at 171 Service Place, located at 171 Service Rd. (off Jefferson Blvd.), Warwick. Rain date is July 17. Antique cars, classic cars to 1990, hot rods, muscle cars and all-year Corvettes are invited to exhibit. Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m.-12 noon. The entry fee is $15 per car with free goody bags and commemorative dash plaques to the first 100 entries. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. to the top 50 cars, as voted by participants, including Best of Show, People’s Choice and Best Club Participation. Free admission for spectators. Enjoy oldies music by Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer. There will be door prizes and raffle prizes, including a 50/50 raffle. Bring a can of wet dog food or wet cat food for the shelter animals and receive an additional door prize ticket. Foxwoods Trip

The Cranston Senior Guild is planning a bus trip to Foxwoods June 29. The cost of the trip is $23 per person, which includes round-trip motor coach bus, free buffet or $10 food coupon to any restaurant at the casino and $10 of bonus slot play. The bus makes two pickups: 9 a.m. from Dwares JCC, 401 Elmgrove Ave, Providence, and 9:15 a.m. from Rhode Island Mall near Sears Auto Center. Indoor/Outdoor Yard Sale

Asbury United Methodist Church, 550 Fair St. (off Narragansett Parkway, in Gaspee area), is holding an indoor/outdoor yard sale to support the good works of the church June 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be household items, sports equipment, yard tools, small furniture, toys, DVDs, CDs, linens, small appliances and jewelry. Misgivings Show

Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night

Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, presents another Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night June 18. Learn the coloring basics while enjoying fine wine and light hors d'oeuvres. Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold open registration for their summer programs June 18 and June 19 from 12-1 p.m. in Warburton Arena (back rink), 975 Sandy Lane. Their learn to skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin July 6 and end August 25 (8 weeks). Roast Pork Dinner

Title I Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2016/2017 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in Title I School areas.  If you are or know of a family with a child who will be 4 years old by September 1 and are interested in this program, call Carol Maloney at 734-3426 or email at Carol.maloney@warwickschools.org.

Old Warwick Grange #41

All in a Chord

All in a Chord (AIAC), the barbershop chorus of women from all over Rhode Island, is seeking to recruit women 18 years old and older who love to sing. Unlike some choruses, AIAC does not do competition, or buy expensive costumes. There are low monthly dues to meet expenses. AIAC is a friendly group of 25 women that loves to sing and entertain. AIAC sings at social events, senior centers, libraries, birthday parties, PawSox games, etc. Members do not need to know how to read music, but only be able to carry a tune on key. Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
