Tri-City Elks

Car shows continue every Thursday throughout the summer, being held in the back of the lodge near the Tiki Bar. Come show off your car and enjoy music by Bob Caramante. Have a cold beverage at the Tiki Bar and maybe a sandwich for dinner.

The Senders are playing June 25 at 9:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $6 per person.

Country line dance lessons are back. Classes will be held every Monday with instructor Paul. Classes are $6 per person, and proceeds will go to Elk charities. Come and meet Paul and enjoy learning country line dancing.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

Foxwoods Trip

The Cranston Senior Guild is planning a bus trip to Foxwoods June 29. The cost of the trip is $23 per person, which includes round-trip motor coach bus, free buffet or $10 food coupon to any restaurant at the casino and $10 of bonus slot play. The bus makes two pickups: 9 a.m. from Dwares JCC, 401 Elmgrove Ave, Providence, and 9:15 a.m. from Rhode Island Mall near Sears Auto Center. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held June 16 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. There will be no meeting in July; meetings will resume in August. Indoor/Outdoor Yard Sale

Asbury United Methodist Church, 550 Fair St. (off Narragansett Parkway, in Gaspee area), is holding an indoor/outdoor yard sale to support the good works of the church June 18 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be household items, sports equipment, yard tools, small furniture, toys, DVDs, CDs, linens, small appliances and jewelry. Misgivings Show

Ocean State Theatre Company will present “Misgivings,” a “divine” comedy of bellylaughs, blessings, blarney and bingo, June 18 at 1245 Jefferson Blvd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show starts at 7:30. Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night

Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, presents another Sip and Scribble: Adult Coloring Night June 18. Learn the coloring basics while enjoying fine wine and light hors d'oeuvres. Tickets are $30 per person and include mandala coloring book, colored pencils, light hors d'oeuvres, glass of wine and non-alcoholic beverages. Free Lunch

As part of a community outreach program, Spring Green Memorial Church is offering a free cook-out lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream sundaes to neighbors in the community June 19 from 12-1 p.m. They will also have a limited number of Food Pantry items available. Warwick Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold open registration for their summer programs June 18 and June 19 from 12-1 p.m. in Warburton Arena (back rink), 975 Sandy Lane. Their learn to skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin July 6 and end August 25 (8 weeks). Roast Pork Dinner

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having a roast pork dinner June 25 from 4:30-7 p.m. This is an all you can eat dinner: $10 for adults, children 12 and under is $4, children 5 and under eat for free.  Menu includes roast pork, gravy, potatoes, vegetables, salad, bread & butter, beverages and homemade desserts. Come early.

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its monthly membership meeting June 29 starting at 5 p.m. at the Deer Check Station on Rte 165 (Ten Rod Road) in Exeter. This will be the second of four streamside meetings for summer 2016. The primary focus of this meeting will be a short discussion of fly fishing the Hexagenia hatch on the Wood River and the safety precautions necessary for fishing during dusk and the twilight hours. Networking will start at 5 p.m., food will be available at about 5:30 p.m., and a short meeting will start around 6 followed by the discussion. This meeting will allow members and guests to network, tell fishing and fly tying tales and other stories of interest, and discuss plans for spending time outdoors with a fly rod nearby. One additional benefit of this summer format is that the sun is still shining when the meeting is adjourned, and antsy anglers and hungry fish have time to meet in the water afterwards. Meeting on Phantom Pain

New England Amputee Association will hold a meeting on phantom pain June 29 at Performance Physical Therapy, 21 Division Street, Pawtucket. Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Guest speakers Faddi Saleh, MD at the Neuromodulation Center at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Camilla Bonnin (PhD student). Topic is research study investigating whether a type of non-invasive brain stimulation called transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) combined with mirror therapy (MT) can help relieve phantom pain. Title I Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2016/2017 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in Title I School areas.  If you are or know of a family with a child who will be 4 years old by September 1 and are interested in this program, call Carol Maloney at 734-3426 or email at Carol.maloney@warwickschools.org.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal non-profit organization with a special interest in community service. All in a Chord

All in a Chord (AIAC), the barbershop chorus of women from all over Rhode Island, is seeking to recruit women 18 years old and older who love to sing. Unlike some choruses, AIAC does not do competition, or buy expensive costumes. There are low monthly dues to meet expenses. AIAC is a friendly group of 25 women that loves to sing and entertain. AIAC sings at social events, senior centers, libraries, birthday parties, PawSox games, etc. Members do not need to know how to read music, but only be able to carry a tune on key. Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
