Tri-City Elks

Car shows continue every Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in the back of the lodge near the Tiki Bar. Come show off your car and enjoy music by Bob Caramante. Have a cold beverage at the Tiki Bar and perhaps a sandwich for dinner.

Country line dance lessons continues every Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. with instructor Paul. Classes are $6 per person. Proceeds will go to the Elks charities.

Zumba lessons are suspended for the months of July and August. Watch for start up date in the fall.

Pontiac Free Library Summer Activities

Classes for Caregivers

Are you a caregiver providing assistance to a relative or friend? Join a free-of-charge, award-winning education program that has helped more than 70,000 family caregivers. Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group Facilitator Training

Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Group Facilitator Training will be held July 22 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at 245 Waterman St., Suite 506, Providence. The Alzheimer's Association's Caregiver Support Groups are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. They help participants develop coping methods and encourage caregivers to maintain their personal, physical and emotional health, as well as optimally care for the person with dementia. Learn how to facilitate a support group for caregivers in your workplace, facility or center. The fee for the training is $75 if you will be holding the support group in a nursing home or an assisted living facility. There is no fee if the group is held in a non-residential location. Experience with facilitating groups and knowledge about Alzheimer's disease is required to facilitate an affiliated support group. Application and BCI is required prior to attending training.

Black and White Band

Public Forum

The Governor’s Commission on Disabilities is

conducting a week of public forums – statewide – July 25-29 to hear the concerns of people with disability. All are invited to attend the Warwick Forum, which will be hosted by OSCIL and held at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick, July 25 from 4-6 p.m. Feel free to join to share your concerns and ideas for improving the lives of Rhode Islanders having disability. NE Amputee Association Meeting

The New England Amputee Association networking meeting will be held July 27 at Kent Hospital Outpatient Rehab, 1351 South County Trail, Building 2, Suite 2 East Greenwich from 4:15-6 p.m. The meeting topic is tips and techniques for the amputee and caregiver. As those of us who live with limb loss know, we have a few tricks we use to help us in our daily lives. So why not come and share what you know with other amputees? Picnic & Bolo Raffle

Community Summer Choir

Sing alongside veteran musicians in an encouraging, low-pressure environment. Have fun singing music you love under the direction of professional staff - all for free. Family Performance Series

All in a Chord

All in a Chord (AIAC), the barbershop chorus of women from all over Rhode Island, is seeking to recruit women 18 years old and older who love to sing. Unlike some choruses, AIAC does not do competition, or buy expensive costumes. There are low monthly dues to meet expenses. AIAC is a friendly group of 25 women that loves to sing and entertain. AIAC sings at social events, senior centers, libraries, birthday parties, PawSox games, etc. Members do not need to know how to read music, but only be able to carry a tune on key. Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
