Tri-City Elks

Car Show continues every Thursday evening at 5 p.m. in the back of the Lodge near the Tiki Bar. Come show off your car. There is a wall plaque awarded to the owner of the most popular vehicle of the evening. Music is provided for your enjoyment by Bob Caramante. Have a cold beverage at the Tiki Bar, listen to the music, and have something good to eat from the grill.

Zumba lessons will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard. Come burn off some calories while having fun doing it.

Harvest Festival

A harvest festival will be held at Wyman Elementary School, 1 Columbia Ave., Sept. 30 from 5-9 p.m. There will be a bounce house, obstacle course, face painting, archery, popcorn, prizes, cotton candy and food trucks. Admission is $4 per child (one free adult with every paid child). Cash and credit card accepted. Rain date is Oct. 28

Pumpkin Patch

The Pumpkin Patch will be open Oct. 1-31 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road. Pumpkins will be sold Mondays through Fridays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Pumpkins sold by size. Major credit cards are accepted.

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run from Oct. 1 through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501(c)3 non profit, and they are currently close to capacity. St. Rita's Autumn Bazaar

The St. Rita's Women's Club is hosting the annual St. Rita's Bazaar Oct. 1 at the Williams Shields Post #43, 662 West Shore Road, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Vendors will feature custom crafts plus there is a penny social, 50/50 raffle, baked goods and hundreds of handmade crafts. The kitchen will be open for goodies and lunch.

John Connors and The Irish Express

Autism and the Sacraments Program

St. Peter’s Parish will be starting their Autism and the Sacraments program Oct. 1 at 1 p.m., with the opening Mass held in the Upper Church. Blessing of the Animals

Golf Tournament

Sacred Heart Church, 820 Providence St., West Warwick, is having its annual golf tournament Oct. 3 at Valley Country Club in Warwick. A putting contest will begin at 11 a.m., followed by lunch consisting of hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, soda and water all grilled on-site. Shotgun start will be 12:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. Dinner will include tossed salad, your choice of prime rib of beef or baked stuffed chicken, potato, vegetable, dessert and coffee. Gold awards will follow dinner. Daughters of Isabella

The St. Benedict Circle#423, Daughters of Isabella will hold their monthly meeting Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Father Lawless church hall at St. Benedict. Gaspee Seniors

Vendors/Crafters Wanter

The West Warwick Angels Caring for Animals is looking for vendors and crafters for their annual holiday bazaar on Nov. 5 at the Church of the Apostles, 170 Fairview Ave., Coventry. Cranston Seniors Schedule Activities

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. The versatile J. Ferguson, aka BIG J. Slick, will have us tapping our toes and clapping our hands with his entertaining music and songs. Following the entertainment there will be a short meeting, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Cranston residency is not required.

A bus trip to Foxwoods is planned for Nov. 9. The cost of the trip is $23 per person. The price includes roundtrip motor coach bus, free buffet or $10 food coupon to any restaurant at the casino, and $10 bonus slot play. The bus makes two pickups: 9 a.m. at the Dwares JCC, 401 Elmgrove Ave., Providence, and 9:15 a.m. at Rhode Island Mall near Sears Auto Center. State Grange Annual Session

The 130th Annual Session of the Rhode Island State Grange will be held Oct. 6-8 at the Radisson Hotel,

2081 Post Road. Each day will begin at 8:30 a.m. There will be a special guest representing the National Grange at this session. The State Grange Session is open to all local 4th Degree Grange members with the exception of the first day, Oct. 6, when the Grange is open in the 6th Degree and lowered to the 4th Degree and the conferral of the 6th Degree on Thursday evening. Reports and awards will be given by various Granges around the state. There will be election of the state Grange officers on Oct. 7, with installation of officers taking place Oct. 8.

Heritage Fall Festival 

Heritage Christian Fellowship will conduct its first annual Fall Festival Oct. 8 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There will be games, hayrides and a super-sized bounce house. In addition, a craft show and bake sale will be held inside the education building. Hot dogs, pizza and popcorn will also be available. Dave Howard of Neil and the Vipers will be performing throughout the day. The proceeds from the festival will go to support the work of Cornerstone Adult Services and the Warwick Neck Improvement Association as well as the renovation fund for the historic church building.

Bingo

Bingo will be held Oct. 8 in the St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, starting and ending with a $100 special. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6.

Gorton High School Monthly Luncheon

Country & Western Night

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a Country & Western Night Oct. 14, with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Menu includes ribs, corn bread and beans. Living Rosary for Peace

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Women’s Auxiliary will have their annual chopstick auction Oct. 22. Doors open at 12 noon, the auction starts at 1 p.m. A chopstick for $10 will get you in all the drawings. They can be purchased at the door. The Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road, is bringing back the Warwick Ghost Tours Oct. 29. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child's development and offers information about community resources.
