Tri-City Elks

Tri-City Elks Veterans Committee is sponsoring a Pasta Night at the lodge Feb. 18 from 6:30-11 p.m. Come and enjoy a great selection of pasta and sauces. Music and dancing, cash bar. Orphaned Wildlife Caregivers Needed

Each year, hundreds of orphaned songbirds, squirrels, rabbits and opossum would surely die without skilled and licensed people to help raise them. The Wildlife Clinic of RI is offering a six-hour subpermittee training course on rearing these animals in a home-based rehabilitation practice. Course satisfies the formal training portion for subpermittee licensing in Rhode Island. Cost is $50 and includes all training materials. Trainees will rehab under a licensed rehabilitator. Trudeau Center Concert

On Feb. 13 at 1:15 p.m., the Trudeau Center welcomes members Robin Norton (vocals), Tony Caramadre (piano) and Gino Cicchitti (guitar, flute), who will perform a soulful presentation of vintage rock and current pop music. The concert is at the Patterson Building Cafeteria, 250 Commonwealth Avenue, Warwick.

Alienated Grandparents Anonymous Meeting

If you are a grandparent who is not allowed a relationship with your grandchildren, join the Rhode Island members of Alienated Grandparents Anonymous. They offer support, understanding and hope.

Their next daytime meeting will be Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Pkwy., Warwick. Future daytime meetings will be at the Pilgrim Senior Center on the second Monday of each month. They also have a night meeting on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Church, 99 Peirce St., East Greenwich. The next night meeting will be on Feb. 20. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Feb. 16 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing plans for their breakfast and raffle on March 25. Oakland Beach Assocation

The Oakland Beach Association will be holding their monthly meeting Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in the JONAH Community Building at 830 Oakland Beach Ave. Come listen to Kevin Sullivan from Community Development and engineer Eric Earls about the Suburban Parkway drain project. Community police will also be there with updated police reports. Refreshments will be served.   

Spaghetti Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having a spaghetti supper Feb. 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. There is a snow date of Feb. 25 in case of inclement weather on the 18th. Menu includes spaghetti, meatballs, sausage, salad, rolls, beverages and homemade desserts. Cost for adults is $9, children 12 years and under is $4. Children 5 and under are free.

February Art Camp for Kids

Sign up now for February Art Camp for kids ages 6 -12 during February school vacation, Feb. 20-24 at the Warwick Center for the Arts, 3259 Post Road.. Each day two new three-hour workshops are offered, giving parents the flexibility to pick and choose workshops based on their child's interests and busy schedules. Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s

next meeting will take place March 1 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle. All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join.  Cranston residency is not required. Plan on coming for a fun afternoon.

MDA Volunteers Needed

The Muscular Dystrophy Association believes in living life unlimited. Currently, they’re seeking volunteers (to start in February 2017) to make telephone calls to businesses participating in the Shamrocks program (no solicitation involved). Academic Decathlon Seeking Volunteers

Rhode Island Academic Decathlon is actively recruiting volunteers for their March 12 state competition. Volunteers evaluate the speech and interview skills of high school students or assist with exams and event management. The competition is hosted by CCRI in Warwick, and most volunteers serve from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Training is provided on the day of the event. Twenty-five teams from high schools in Cranston, Cumberland, East Greenwich, Johnston, Providence, North Kingstown, North Providence, South Kingstown, Warwick and Westerly are competing. Lobster Raffle

A lobster raffle will be held every Saturday through March 19 at the Warwick Firefighter’s Hall, 750 Warwick Ave. Doors open at 1 p.m., raffle starts at 1:30. There will be no raffle held Jan. 2. There is a general merchandise table, lobster and meat table, an entire dinner table, 50/50 raffles and a finale of large lobsters, a large screen TV and small electronics every week. Refreshments and lunch are available. All proceeds benefit The imPossible Dream and Take A Kid Fishing.

Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and older to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at Buttonwoods City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The fee is $25. 20-Week Raffles

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, is selling 20-week raffle tickets for $20. Drawings will be held weekly for $25 prize money with additional bonus drawings of $50, $100 and $500. Meadowlark Seniors

Meadowlark Seniors, a social club, holds weekly meetings every Thursday at the St. Kevin Parish Hall, 333 Sandy Lane, at 1:30. The meetings are followed by coffee and refreshments. After refreshments, an activity also follows. All seniors are invited to visit and see what the club is all about.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non-profit, and they are currently close to capacity. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
