Tri-City Elks

Country line dancing every Monday is suspended until further notice.

Tickets are $15 and are available in the Lounge Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 12 noon.

Bingo March 20 starts promptly at 6:30 p.m. Kitchen will be open. Bring your friends. For more information, call John Collins at 265-3075.

Bingo in April. The first bingo in the month of April will take place April 10 instead of April 3 in observance of Good Friday. Please mark your calendar with the change of date.

Damhsa

The Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes back Damhsa Irish Step Dance with special guests Jimmy Desrosiers, pianist, Philip Abbatomarco, steel guitar, Alexandra and Nathaniel Nichols, violinist and guitarist, and Michael Stone, bagpiper, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Larkin Recreation Building. There will be face painting with Sally Dwyer and sound system by W. Richard Johnson.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting March 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of some 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Norwood Neighborhood Association

A general meeting of the Norwood Neighborhood Association will be held March 18 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick Street. Guest speaker will be Mayor Scott Avedisian, who will provide a city and state update. The community police officer will review crime incidents in the community and surrounding area.  Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held March 19 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing upcoming events and finalizing plans for the April 11 breakfast, so your ideas are very welcome. Swinging Squares of Rhode Island

Square Dance Workshops will be held Monday nights, March 23 and 30 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the East Smithfield Neighborhood Center, 7 Esmond St., Smithfield. Fee is $6 per person. Caller is Bob Butler, cuers are Pat Anthony and Margene Jervis.

The Swinging Squares of Rhode Island Monthly Square Dance will be held March 21 from 8-10:30 p.m. at the East Smithfield Neighborhood Center. Cost is $7 per person. Legal Barriers to Employment

Come to the JONAH Community Center, 830 Oakland Beach Ave., March 19 at 7 p.m. to learn about legal barriers to employment. Common barriers are poor credit, criminal convictions and loss of license. Ways to help are expungement of convictions; filing disputes with credit reporting agencies and creditors; reinstatement of driver’s license; and reinstatement of occupational licenses. If you meet any of the following guidelines you qualify: receive or meet income eligibility requirements to receive TANF, SNAP, Medicaid, SCHIP, Section 8; have poor credit score; are at least 60 days behind on one or more personal/family accounts. Spring Book Sale

Friends of the Warwick Public Library will have their Spring Book Sale. March 20 is for members only. Join them and be a member from 6-9 p.m. The book sale is March 21 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and March 22 from 1-4 p.m. Books, puzzles, children’s books, CD’s and DVD’s are available - something for everyone.

Meet the Author: Celebrating Italian Traditions

The Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, is hosting a special event with author Dr. Ed Iannuccilli as he talks about his second book “What Ever Happened to Sunday Dinner? and other stories March 21 at 6:30 p.m. This special event is a great opportunity to relive the joys and mysteries of growing up Italian in America while enjoying traditional Italian food and fine wine. St. Joseph’s Hafli

St. George’s Maronite Catholic Church of Cranston presents its 66th annual St. Joseph’s Hafli March 21 at Venus de milo, 75 Grand Army Highway, Swansea, Mass. at 7 p.m. Admission is $50 for adults, $20 for children. Warwick Figure Skaters

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold an open registration March 21 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at Thayer Arena, 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Wildlife Baby Shower

The Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of RI is holding their annual Wildlife Baby Shower March 21 from 1-4 p.m. at Cold Spring Community Center, 36 Beach Street, North Kingstown. Ice-cream social, baby animal nursery, kid’s games and crafts, face painting, balloon animals and more. Wildlife presentation by Vivian Maxson and her hawk and owls. Admission is free. Dog-rescue Fundraiser at Cowesett Inn 

The Brandi Project is a new, socially conscious business devoted to saving shelter dogs that has already raised over $24k for the dog-rescue mission. The business takes its name from Brandi, a shelter dog rescued with just hours to spare before she was to be euthanized by a shelter. TBD will officially launch with a “Black Leash Affair” fundraiser March 22 at the Cowesett Inn from 4-7 p.m. with cocktail hour, dinner, raffle and more. Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and older to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at Buttonwoods City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The fee is $20. Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly meeting March 25 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rte. 3, Exit 6 off of Rte. 95), West Greenwich. TU 225 member, fly tier and angler, former teacher and still promoting education Mike Brucato will discuss “Why Should You Use a Soft-Hackle Wet Fly?” Mike will discuss what soft-hackle wet flies suggest to trout, why trout are so routinely fooled by them, and how an angler fishes a soft-hackle wet fly? Parent University 101

On March 26 the Warwick Coalition to Prevent Child Abuse, in cooperation with Warwick Public Schools, is presenting an information night open to all parents of Warwick school children that focuses on student achievement. It’s entitled Parent University 101: Steps to Success. The event will be held at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road. Sara Monaco, Ed.D. from the Warwick Public Schools’ Title 1 Family Center will offer 31/2-hour presentations beginning at 6, 6:30 and 7 p.m. Topics will include how parents and schools can partner in children’s academic success, the importance of two way communication between parents and schools, and the link between mental wellness, consistent attendance and student success. Members of the Warwick Coalition to prevent Child Abuse and other area service providers will hold a community resource fair and will be on hand to answer parents’ questions about programs and services that support child wellness, safety, learning and academic success. Crafts will be offered for children while parents are listening to the presentation. This event is free of charge and made possible through a grant from the Washington/Kent Family Care Community Partnership and DCYF.

Comedy Fundraiser

A comedy fundraiser featuring New England’s best comedians to benefit the Children’s Recreation program at the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center will be held March 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the West Warwick Elks Lodge #1697, 60 Clyde St. Tickets are $20 and food and beverage are available for purchase. MS Dream Center Bake Sale

MS Dream Center of R.I. will be holding their annual bake sale March 28 at the Warwick Mall Community Booth (near the entrance of JC Penny’s) from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Homemade baked goods, including holiday theme cupcakes, Italian cookie trays, pies, breads (also sugar free and gulten free items) will be avilable. Ham Raffle

Sgt. David Langevin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 449 will hold an Easter ham raffle March 28 at the post home, 197 Providence St., West Warwick. The raffle will begin at 7 p.m. Many prizes of Easter hams, Easter baskets, food products, household goods, gift certificates and more will be raffled. Trout Unlimited Annual Banquet

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its 2015 Annual Banquet March 28 starting at 3 p.m. at the East Greenwich Veterans Fireman’s Hall, 80 Queen St., East Greenwich. The TU225 annual banquet represents the beginning of the upcoming season’s activities and projects and presents a key opportunity to network with members and friends of like passions while enjoying an excellent meal and winning prizes or super gifts for that special angler, loved ones and friends. Benefit Concert

The 13th Annual RI Community Food Bank Benefit Concert will be held Palm Sunday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick. A celebration of Christian music with performances from multiple churches. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item. A free will offering for the food bank will also be taken. Refreshments will follow the concert.

Mary’s Way of the Cross

St. Benedict’s Young Adult Choir Keepin’ the faith will present Mary’s Way of the Cross, Stations with reflections and music, March 29 at 7 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Church. You are invited to enter into an intimate journey of faith through the sorrowful heart of Mary and surrender to God’s will just as she did. A canned food item for the food pantry would be appreciated.
