The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held April 16 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be reporting on the breakfast held April 11 and discussing upcoming events, the May craft fair and the June car show. Buckeye Brook Earth Day Clean-up

Buckeye Brook Coalition’s 18th Annual Earth Day Clean-Up will be held April 18 from 9 a.m.-12 noon (rain date April 19 from 1-4 p.m.) at Knights of Columbus Hall,475 Sandy Lane (lower parking lot). Registration starts at 8:45 on Saturday (12:30 on Sunday if rained out on Saturday). This is an excellent opportunity to share your appreciation of our planet with your families, children and neighbors. Dress weather-appropriate and wear gloves and waterproof boots if possible. The donated gloves go quickly, so if you can, bring your own. You will be supplied with bags to retrieve litter. Volunteers will be divided into groups under the leadership of team captains who will bring their groups to their locations throughout the watershed. They need volunteers to be team captains. If you are interested, contact Paul Earnshaw at 739-6592. Certificates of Participation will be available upon request for volunteer hours.

New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar Country will be held April 19 at Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich, from 1-5 p.m. Al Carter and The Nashville Boys will perform. 

April Art Camp

A new schedule of art sessions for April vacation was announced by Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Returning favorites include drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and more. The camp runs April 20-24 with morning and afternoon sessions for kids ages 6-12. Cost per three-hour session is $35 and there is a discount if you sign up for the whole week. Annual Stream Cleanup

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its 2015 Annual Stream Cleanup April 25. Members and guests are welcome. A short networking opportunity and organizational meeting will start at 9 a.m. at the RIDEM Deer Check Station off Route 165 next to the Wood River in Exeter. Free breakfast snacks and coffee will be available for this meeting. Members, partners, and friends of TU225 will be assigned to pick up trash and other discarded items along accesses, parking areas, paths and in the wood, falls and flat rivers. Opportunities to discuss wildlife and aquatic life will be available. Participants are advised to be aware of local weather conditions and dress accordingly. Chest waders and wading staffs are suggested for those participants who are willing to enter the rivers to recover trash and/or clear other obstructions. A supper and silent auction to support the works of Asbury United Methodist Church will be held April 25 at 6 p.m. at Lemongrass restaurant, 1138 Post Road, Warwick. All You Can Eat Spring Breakfast

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having an All You Can Eat Spring  Breakfast April 25 from 7-11 a.m. Menu includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, baked beans, hash browns, toast, cereal, fruit cocktail, milk, coffee and tea. Cost for adults is $8.50; children 12 and under is $4; children 5 and under are free.

Tri-City Elks Fishing Derby

Tri -City Elks will be holding their 6th annual fishing derby for boys and girls ages 5-12 on April 25 at 7 a.m. You will need to stop in at the lodge at 1915 West Shore Road after 3 p.m. to sign you children up. A fishing pole will be awarded to the child who catches the largest fish in each age group. Age groups are 5-8 and 9-12 years old. Please bring your own pole and bait. They will have volunteers here to help with all. Final weigh-in will be at 11 a.m. Hot dogs, chips and soda will follow.

Eat Wings, Raise Funds

Go to the Buffalo Wild Wings at Warwick Mall on April 29 anytime from 11 a.m. to closing and 10 percent of all pre-tax sales go to the Trudeau Center, an organization benefiting children and adults with developmental disabilities. Must present a ticket, tickets can be found at www.trudeaucenter.org or on the Facebook page for the J. Arthur Trudeau Memorial Center. Help support a great cause.

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly membership meeting April 29 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road (Rte. 3, Exit 6 off Rte. 95), West Greenwich. This will be the last indoor meeting for TU225 until September. The membership meetings for May, June, July and August will be held at the RIDEM Deer Check Station off Route 165 next to the Wood River in Exeter. At this meeting, TU 225 members and guests will enjoy hearing about the results of the 2014 water temperature monitoring project completed on many R.I. rivers and streams by the WPWA and a quick summary of the 2014 findings of the Chapter’s HAG. In addition, program representatives from URI’s Coastal Institute will acknowledge the Chapter’s 20 years of participation in their Watershed Watch Program. Let’s Make Your Home More Accessible

OSCIL provides assistance to homeowners having disability to increase independence by making their homes more accessible. OSCIL’s Home Access program can assist with the installation of bars and rails, ramps, widening doorways and kitchen and/or bathroom modifications. As part of OSCIL’s outreach and community education initiative, they will be hosting a workshop demonstrating various solutions that can increase access in your home. A Gathering of God

Bingo Caller Needed

Art Classes for Teens

Classes run for three-week intervals and there is a new medium every month like portraits in pencil, mixed media, ceramics, printmaking and more. Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. The Kent Center is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Program hours are 4:40-8 p.m., making it accessible for people who work. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700. 

Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening 

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
