Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held May 21 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will have a wrap-up for their craft show and make final plans for the Cause for Paws Classic Car Show to be held on June 14. An Evening of Special Music

The combined choirs of Holy Apostles Roman Catholic Church and Oak Lawn Community Baptist Church will present an evening of special music May 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston. Featuring the adult, hand bell and life teen choirs with special ensembles, followed by dessert and fellowship.

Hi-Lo-Jack League

The hi-lo-jack league at the Buttonwoods Community center is accepting new players for the new session starting May 25. Games begin at 12:45 p.m. Cost is only $2 per week, and all money goes back to players. Call Roy Walsh at 497-8097.

Lunch and Learn

This month’s workshop to be held May 27 from 12-2 p.m. at the Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL), 1944 Warwick Ave. will be “Lunch and Learn,” increasing independence in home and community. Find out how assistive devices can improve access and independence. This workshop provides information that can benefit individuals having physical and/or sensory impairment. Trout Unlimited

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its regular monthly membership meeting May 27 starting at 6:30 p.m. This meeting will be the first of the streamside meetings for 2015 and will be held at the RIDEM Deer Check Station in the Arcadia Management Area in Exeter. This streamside venue will be followed for the upcoming meetings in June, July and August. At this meeting, TU225 members and guests will enjoy watching veteran fly tiers tie flies for the June hatches. There also will be equipment available to calibrate water thermometers for anyone wishing to assure the accuracy of their thermal monitoring equipment. Farewell to Winslow Park

Plant Sale

Community Lunch/Food Pantry

Scrub-a-Dub Car Wash

Get your vehicle spring-cleaned and donate to the animals of East Greenwich Animal Protection League anytime until June 1. Scrub-a-Dub Car Wash, located at 1390 Bald Hill Road, Warwick (across the street from Best Buy), will provide a car wash voucher for every $10 donated to the League (a $10 minimum donation is required for a voucher). Touch a Truck Family Picnic

The Free Touch a Truck Family Picnic presented by Warwick Parents as Teachers, will be held June 3 from11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Bring a picnic lunch and join them for a touch-a-truck program. An assortment of community helpers are bringing their work vehicles for children to explore. The picnic will be held next to the tennis courts behind the Mickey Stevens Sports Complex located at 975 Sandy Lane. The rain date is June 4. Call 734-2426 to ask questions or register.

St. Kevin Parish Carnival

Square Dance Plus Workshops

Goodwill Night at McCoy 

The Pawtucket Red Sox will host a Goodwill Rhode Island Night at McCoy Stadium on Monday, June 8, as the team takes on the Charlotte Knights starting at 7:05 p.m. General admission tickets are $9, and a portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will be donated to Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island. Steak Fry

Goodwill Grand Raffle

Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island is bringing back its annual grand raffle. The drawing will be held June 15 at the organization’s offices, but those buying tickets do not have to be present to win. The cost of one ticket is $10, while two tickets will cost $15 and three tickets will cost $25. Only 700 tickets will be sold. The top prize is $1,000 cash, or seven days and six nights in Orlando, Fla. The second prize is $500 cash, and the third prize is a laptop computer. Tickets can be purchased by cash, check or money order, and can be obtained by calling Jan Young or Jeff Machado at 861-2080.

AARP 55 Alive Safe Driving Class

The Pilgrim Senior Center will be hosting an AARP 55 Alive Safe Driving class on June 25 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. All that complete the class will be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. Cruise Night

The Greater Warwick Lions Club hosts a weekly Tuesday evening Cruise Night beginning at 4 and ending at sundown, running till September, weather permitting. “The Colors of Spring” Juried Exhibit

“The Colors of Spring” Juried Exhibit at the Warwick Museum of Art highlights 23 artists and 30+ artworks in a range of mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics, collage, photography and more. Juror Nancy Gaucher-Thomas has selected two Excellence Award winners and four Honorable Mentions. Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that preschool registration for the 2015/2016 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Lippitt, Wickes and Norwood areas. Summer Art Camp for Kids

Art Classes for Teens

Moms RI

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just on hour a week. Moms for Moms RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings, and attending mom gatherings. Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies. There is no charge for participation. Fife & Drum Corps

Join the Pawtuxet Rangers Fife & Drum Corps of Warwick and continue the great tradition of Colonial/Revolutionary history through music. Free Pet Food

Bonniedale Farm in North Scituate offers dog and cat food at no cost to struggling pet owners, hoping to provide for the animals while easing the burden on community members facing tough times. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Grief Support

Evening Counseling Available

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety or overwhelming stress coupled with an addiction to or dependence on drugs or alcohol, then The Kent Center’s new evening program may be right for you. The Kent Center is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders Program hours are 4:40-8 p.m., making it accessible for people who work. Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Are you experiencing depression, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, increased substance use or other emotional difficulties? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Old Warwick Grange #41

The Grange is a fraternal community service, non-profit organization with a special interest in rural life and the traditions of faith, patriotism, leadership and family values Grange where the whole family can go and grow Help them to help others The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. No meetings in July or August. The Grange hall is located at 1175 West Shore Rd.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
