Tri-City Elks

Tickets are $14 per person. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are available in the lounge during regular business hours.

Blood drive will be held March 5 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Breakfast will be served to all donors. Come give the gift of life; one pint will save three people. Join us for this worthy cause.

Zumba lessons continue every Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. Lorraine Blanchard is the instructor. Come and burn some calories and enjoy the fun. Cost is $6 per person.

Country line dancing will continue every Monday from 7-9 p.m. Lori Enos is the instructor, and the cost is $6 per person. Proceeds to benefit Elk charities.

An Afternoon of Watercolor Painting

The Warwick Historical Society, 25 Roger Williams Circle, is offering a draw and paint from start to finish, or choose from the pre-prepared art and add your individual gorgeous watercolors as you work towards completion of your unique nautical picture Feb. 21 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. No former art experience is necessary, just a yearning to create. Free Lunch

Free Lunch will be offered Feb. 21 from 12-1 p.m. As part of a community outreach program, Spring Green Memorial Church is offering a free soup and sandwich lunch to neighbors in the community. Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its February monthly membership meeting Feb. 24, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry /Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich.

The primary focus of this meeting will be on Grover Fugate, a TU225 member and veteran leader in Rhode Island watershed issues, who will be providing a presentation on Rhode Island’s Ocean Special Area Management Plan (Ocean SAMP), Rhode Island’s ocean spatial plan for how to both develop and implement a plan that would give Rhode Islanders a significant role in determining how the state’s offshore waters should be developed, or simply be left alone. In addition, this meeting will allow members and guests to network, tell fishing and fly tying tales and other stories of interest, and discuss plans for spending time outdoors when spring finally arrives. History of T.F. Green Airport

Join the Warwick Historical Society in welcoming Chester Browning, a retired archivist of T.F. Green Airport, for the History of T.F. Green Airport at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Feb. 24 from 7-8 p.m. Mr. Browning will be speaking on the history of the first state airport in the United States. He will be taking us through the history of Hillsgrove from 1931 to T.F. Green of today.

NE Amputee Association

The New England Amputee Association monthly meeting will held Feb. 24 from 4:15-6 p.m. at Kent County Outpatient Rehab, 1351 South County Trail, Building 2, Suite 200A, East Greenwich. Amputees, family members and caregivers are welcome. This month’s meeting topic is “What are the most important questions to ask your prosthetist?” This topic will enable you to improve your communication with your prosthetist. The better we communicate with our prosthetist, the better the prosthetist can work with us for a good prosthetic fit.

Ham and Bean Dinner

Pack 7 Buttonwoods will be holding its 5th annual ham and bean dinner Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. (following mass) at Saint Rose and Clement Parish, 111 Long St., Warwick. The menu includes fresh carved ham, three styles of homemade beans, homemade coleslaw, with assorted breads and butter, coffee and dessert. Tickets are $10 each, and children five and under are free.

Dance-a-thon

A dance-a-thon for Heart Awareness Month will be held Feb. 28 from 2-5 p.m. at The Fitness Studio, LLC, 400 Warwick Ave. Early registration is $15, $20 at the door. There will be prizes, raffles and refreshments. All proceeds go to the American Heart Association.

Indoor Winter Flea Market

St. Benedict Church Parish Hall, 70 Transit Street, Warwick, is holding an indoor winter flea market Feb. 27 and 28 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. both days featuring thousands of items. Italian Night

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Warwick is holding an Italian Night March 12 from 6-9:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, Sandy Lane, Warwick. Dinner is sponsored by Rigatoni’s Restaurant. Menu includes calzones, salad, pasta, meatballs, sausage and peppers, bread and butter and assorted desserts. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12, and children under 5 are free. There will be a 50/50 raffle, raffle table and a cash bar. All proceeds benefit St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Non-perishable food donations will be accepted for the Church Food Pantry. Roger Williams Park Concert

A second winter concert will be held at Botanical Center in Roger Williams Park March 13 from 4-6 p.m. Aurea Ensemble combines the writing of Roger Williams with the music of Purcell, Handel and more in lush tropical gardens. $15 admission, $10 members of the Botanical Center Conservancy. Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and older to join the Warwick, Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at Buttonwoods City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The fee is $20. Family Performance Series

The holidays are here and the Family Performance Series, Artists Exchanges newest family-friendly programming, is the perfect activity to entertain all of your family members for little to no cost. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. The groups are confidential and free of charge. For more information call Jessica at 738-1700.

Free Health Care

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has an outreach coordinator to assist women in getting free health care If you are between the ages of 40-64 and are underserved or uninsured, call Maria at 456-3105 for a confidential assessment. You may be eligible for free care including mammogram and gynecological care.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
