Academic Award Scholarships
The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces that its Academic & Community Achievement Award applications for 2013 are now available. This $500 scholarship is for high school seniors who are residents of Warwick. The Lions Club is dedicated to the concept of community service, and these awards are weighted towards students who have demonstrated a legacy of community service. Application deadline is May 15. The James V. Johnson Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by JONAH Inc, are now available. Any graduating high school senior living in the Oakland Beach school district are eligible for the scholarship. Applications must be returned by May 22. For applications call Beverlee Sturdahl at 739-2219.
Pilgrim Senior Center Events
The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Have some fun with exercise and join the party. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates international and Latin music with freeing, stress-relieving movements. It is great for the mind, body and soul; any age or fitness level is welcome. This class is held Tuesday mornings at 8:50 a.m. and the fee is $3 per class.
This is a Zumba class using weights for toning and is held on Mondays at 6 p.m. and the fee is $45 for a 10-week session. You can register and pre-pay at the welcome desk. For more information call Holly at 468-4074.

Warwick Historical Society

Healthy Kids Day
Join in the fun at Healthy Kids Day, being held Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kent County YMCA, 900 Centerville Road, Warwick. Enjoy indoor and outdoor activities with obstacle courses, dance, bounce houses, drumming, sports and games. Demos on healthy living will include nutrition, education, exercise, prevention and safety. Performers include interactive singer Julie Garnett from 10:15-10:55, storyteller/musician/cartoonist Keith Munslow from 11:30-12:20, and positive rapper James “Mr. Deep Positivity” McBride from 12:45-1:45 p.m. The event is open to all ages and is free of charge. Healthy Kids Day at the Kent County YMCA was made possible in part through a grant from South County Community Action Family Care Community Partnership and DCYF to the member agencies of the Warwick Coalition to Prevent Child Abuse.
Tri City Elks
Tri City Elks #14, 1519 West Shore Rd., Warwick, will be holding their 5th annual fishing derby for boys and girls ages 5-12 April 27 at 7 a.m. Stop in at the lodge after 3 p.m. to sign your kids up. A fishing pole will be awarded to the child who catches the largest fish and the child who catches the second largest. Fish weigh-in is at 11 a.m. Hotdogs, chips and soda will follow.

The Village Singers

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Tuesday, May 7, from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road.
