Pilgrim Senior Center Events

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Special events for May:

Mother’s Day Meal May 9 at 12 noon.

All meals require a reservation; call 468-4076.

The center is closed Monday, May 27, Memorial Day.

Zumba Gold: Have some fun with exercise and join the party. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates international and Latin music with freeing, stress-relieving movements. It is great for the mind, body and soul; any age or fitness level is welcome. This class is held Tuesday mornings at 8:50 a.m. and the fee is $3 per class.

Zumba/Toning: This is a Zumba class using weights for toning and is held on Mondays at 6 p.m. and the fee is $45 for a 10-week session. You can register and pre-pay at the welcome desk. For more information call Holly at 468-4074.

Ceramics 12:30-3 p.m. Are you interested in trying something new? We have an instructor ready to guide you through a project or to just be there ready to help. This group meets Tuesdays at 12:30-3pm, $4 per class. No sign-up necessary.

Cribbage League: New group looking for players. Will meet every Friday at 1 p.m.

Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes back Mary King in a musical celebration of Mother’s Day May 9 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson Building cafeteria. Mary’s diverse talents include harp, fiddle, percussion and vocals. Her melodies, both enchanting and unique, are sure to please all.

Spring Sale

The Trustees of Spring Green Memorial Church, 1350 Warwick Ave., invite you to attend their annual spring sale May 10 and 11 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. A variety of used saleable items are reasonably priced along with baked goods and clothing. Complimentary coffee and donuts will be provided on Friday and the café is open on Saturday for lunch and snacks. There is ample parking and the church is handicapped accessible.

Crafting for Critters

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter is hosting their 2nd Annual Crafting for Critters Spring Craft Fair and Bake Sale May 11 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Over 40 vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares just in time for Mother’s Day. Products for sale include stained glass, Silpada jewelry, handmade chocolates, photography, handmade candles, crafts for animal lovers, handmade jewelry, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef house wares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, clothing, books and more. Tri City Elks

Multi-Family Yard Sale

The American Legion Auxiliary Post 15, 1016 Main St., East Greenwich, will hold a multi-family yard sale May 11 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Round and long table available for $10. Association

The Conimicut Village Association’s next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 14 at the Community Police Station in the center of Conimicut Village on West Shore Road, where Officer Nelson Carreiro will discuss the decriminalization of the new marijuana law. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

Scholarships

The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces that its Academic & Community Achievement Award applications for 2013 are now available. This $500 scholarship is for high school seniors who are residents of Warwick. The Lions Club is dedicated to the concept of community service, and these awards are weighted towards students who have demonstrated a legacy of community service. Application deadline is May 15. Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting of Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held May 16 at the Warwick Public Library, Sandy Lane, at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing the upcoming Cause for Paws Antique Car Show on June 9. Public is invited. For more information call Brenda at 467-2692.

5K Walk-A-Thon

A 5K Walk-A-Thon to benefit One Fund Boston will take place May 18 at 9 a.m.; registration is at 8:30 at the Roger Williams Park Boathouse. Book & Plant Sale

The spring book sale and plant sale at the Pontiac Free Library, 101 Grenwich Ave., Warwick, will be held May 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. A variety of books and seedlings of many types will be available for purchase. The plants for sale are chemically-free grown seedlings from Blue Skys Flower Farm in Cranston and will include a variety of herbs, vegetable starts and flower starts. Norwood Neighborhood

Association

A general meeting will be held May 21 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The Warwick Police K9 Unit will present a very interesting demonstration featuring its two new K9-police dogs conducting criminal-tracking arrests along with demonstrating drug searching techniques. There will also be an update on the housing issues in Norwood. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Avenu e of Flags

The Avenue of Flags will be displayed May 25 through May 27 (Memorial Day weekend) at Pawtuxet Memorial Park, 100 Harrison Ave., Warwick, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day, weather permitting. This occasion salutes all our nation’s veterans living and deceased, who served proudly.

Steel Guitar Jam

One Act Play Festival

Submissions are currently being accepted for the Artists’ Exchange 8th annual One Act Play Festival. For consideration, send submissions of one-act plays of all genres to Artists’ Exchange One Acts, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI 02910 or info@artists-exchange.org (Include name and title of play in subject line of email). The deadline for consideration for the 2013 festival is May 31. Be sure to include a cover page with your name, contact information (phone and email) and synopsis. Selections will be announced on the Artists’ Exchange website by July 1. The festival will take place July 12 through Aug. 4 at Theatre 82 in Cranston.

Adult Watercolor

Class for Beginners

Tuesday, May 23 through June 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bernadette Pace, an experienced instructor and well-known regional artist, will introduce students to basic techniques of watercolor painting learning to use the materials, blending colors, creating dynamic compositions and using watercolor to express creativity. These are encouraging and adventuresome classes for people 17 years and up who want to learn to paint, and students will start seeing things in a new way. Daughters of Isabella

St. Benedict Circle #423 Daughters of Isabella will be celebrating their 85th anniversary June 2. Car Show

The North Kingstown Lions Club 3rd Annual Car Show will be hosted this year by Tarbox Toyota at 3671 Quaker Lane (Rt.2) in North Kingstown. The car show will be Sunday, June 2 with a raindate of June 9 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All makes and models are welcome with a car registration fee of $15 per car and spectators are asked for $1 donation. The RI Blood Center will be there with their blood mobile. They will have food, drinks and vendors; dash plaques, t-shirts, free giveaways and trophies to be awarded. Cause for Paws

The 6th annual “Cause for Paws” Classic Car Show will take place June 9 at the building known as 171 Service Place, located at 171 Service Rd. (off Jefferson Blvd.), Warwick (rain date is July 2). Antique cars, classic cars to 1989, rods, muscle cars and all-year Corvettes are invited to exhibit. Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, with free goodie bags and dash plaques to the first 100 entries. The entry fee is $15 per car. Spectators are free to roam the show. Enjoy oldies music by Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. in 28 classes, including Best of Show, Peoples Choice and Best Club Participation. There will be door prizes and raffles, including a 50/50 raffle. Bring a can of wet dog food or wet cat food for the shelter animals and receive an additional door prize ticket. Art Camp for Children 6-12

July 8 through August 16 on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creative kids crave summer stimulation, and that’s what they’ll get with art workshops like Make a Monster, Painting, Jewelry Making, Drawing, Improv Comedy, Cartooning and more. Camp runs Monday to Friday with three weeklong workshops at 9-11, 11:30-1:30, 2-4. Workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. The Village Singers
