Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting June 4 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of some 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in September. Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will meet Tuesday, June 4, at 7 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace House. This will be their last meeting until next fall. Everyone is welcome.

St. Kevin Festival

& Carnival

The St. Kevin Parish Festival & Carnival will be held June 7-9 on church grounds, 333 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Hours Friday 6-11 p.m., Saturday 12 noon to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Bingo: Friday and Saturday with Special Prizes/50-50 Raffle Drawing on Sunday carnival rides, games, live-music, tents, food, bake sale, gift & liquor baskets Special Parish Mass Sunday at 10 honoring Patron Saint Kevin. St. Benedict Church

Scouting Program

St. Benedict Church will hold a “Philly Style” cheese steak/chicken sandwich dinner June 8 from 5-7 p.m. in the St. Benedict Parish Center, 70 Transit St., Warwick. Tickets are $10 and Include your choice of a “Philly Style” steak or chicken sandwich; served with potato salad, corn, tossed green salad, chips, watermelon, dessert and beverage. Tickets are on sale by calling the Rectory at 737-9492.

Bayside Beat Concert

There will be a concert to benefit the Conimicut Village Association June 8 at 7 p.m. The concert will take place at Woodbury Union Church at the corner of West Shore Road and Beach Avenue in Warwick. Entertainment will be provided by Bayside Beat, a classic rock band from the Village itself. The cost for admission is $5 and children under 12 are free. Refreshments will be served after the show. Walgreens is the sponsor of this event.

Cause for Paws

The 6th annual “Cause for Paws” Classic Car Show will take place June 9 at the building known as 171 Service Place, located at 171 Service Rd. (off Jefferson Blvd.), Warwick (rain date is July 2). Antique cars, classic cars to 1989, rods, muscle cars and all-year Corvettes are invited to exhibit. Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, with free goodie bags and dash plaques to the first 100 entries. The entry fee is $15 per car. Spectators are free to roam the show. Enjoy oldies music by Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. in 28 classes, including Best of Show, Peoples Choice and Best Club Participation. There will be door prizes and raffles, including a 50/50 raffle. Bring a can of wet dog food or wet cat food for the shelter animals and receive an additional door prize ticket. Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway, Warwick, is having a Sunday bingo June 9. Doors open at 11 a.m. sharp until 3 p.m. Ample parking, air conditioned, refreshments available for purchase. Minimum of 34 winners.

CVA Meeting

The next meeting of the Conimicut Village Association (CVA) will be Tuesday, June 11 at 7 p.m. at the Woodbury Union Church downstairs Friendship Room, where a demonstration of the Warwick Police Canine Unit will be presented. Refreshments will be served.

Luncheon Reunion

The Boys

Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes The Boys Friday, June 14 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson Building cafeteria. The Boys features Steven Smith, guitar; Ben Long, guitar, drums, vocals; Chris Lysik, saxophone, piano, vocals; Adrian Maris, drums; and Jeff DiIorio, guitar, vocals. Child Safety Fair

The Keeping Kids Safe Project will be hosting a free child safety fair in Warwick on June 15 to provide children with free fingerprints and photographs. The child safety organization will take a child ’s fingerprints and send them home directly with parents. Parents can use the record to turn directly over to authorities anywhere in the world to instantly aid in an investigation. There will also be community organizations present to provide safety information and entertainment for families. Join us at the Balise Nissan auto dealership at 1350 Post Road in Warwick from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, June 15.

Yard Sale

Conimicut Village Yard Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will host its first annual community-wide yard sale Saturday, June 22 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Conimicut residents who would like to participate and get on the list should email leslie@i-networld.com with your address or should call 737-5559. CVA will consolidate all participating households onto one map, which will be handed out the day of the event. Maps will also be available for download from www.conimicutvillage.org after June 20. There is no cost to participate. Advertising will be statewide.

Steel Guitar Jam

The band Branded will perform at New England Steel Guitar Country Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich on June 23 from 1-5 p.m. Donation is $7.

Adult Watercolor

Class for Beginners

Tuesdays through June 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bernadette Pace, an experienced instructor and well-known regional artist, will introduce students to basic techniques of watercolor painting learning to use the materials, blending colors, creating dynamic compositions and using watercolor to express creativity. These are encouraging and adventuresome classes for people 17 years and up who want to learn to paint, and students will start seeing things in a new way. Art Camp for Children 6-12

July 8 through August 16 on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creative kids crave summer stimulation, and that’s what they’ll get with art workshops like Make a Monster, Painting, Jewelry Making, Drawing, Improv Comedy, Cartooning and more. Camp runs Monday to Friday with three weeklong workshops at 9-11, 11:30-1:30, 2-4. Workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere.
