Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will install officers for the upcoming Toastmasters year at a dinner meeting tonight, June 18, at 6 p.m. at Chelo’s on the Water, Masthead Drive, Warwick. Officers to be installed are president, Kim Gauthier of Warwick; vice presidents/education, Erik Manchester of Warwick and Sheila Flanagan; vice president/membership, Merrill Winoker of Warwick; vice president/public relations, Bethany Hashway of East Greenwich; co-secretaries, Richard Aceto of Coventry and Michael Murray of Johnston; treasurer, Karen Golembeski of Warwick; sergeant-at-arms, Pamela Pike of Warwick and webmaster, Don Gendron of Cranston. The guest speaker at the installation dinner will be Robert E. Burns, a speech coach and author who has taught more than 6,000 budding speakers at a number of universities, including the University of Rhode Island, Bryant University and Brown University. Art Workshops at WMOA

The following drop-by-and-try art concert workshops will be featured as part of the Apponaug Summer Concert series at the Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA) on the following dates:

* Thursday, June 27 - Creative Collages with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, July 11 - Playing with Pastels with Taylor Terreri

* Friday, July 26 - Making Mandalas with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, Aug. 8 - Exploring Watercolors with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, Aug. 22 - Personal Art Journals with Taylor Terriri

Each 90-minute workshop will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and costs $9. Payment can be made by phone with MasterCard or Visa or in person with cash or check. Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Cornerstone Vacation Bible Time

Cornerstone Church will hold its Vacation Bible Time from July 15 through July 19. The free event will run from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, and is open to children 4 years old through 6th grade. The church is located at 1990 Elmwood Avenue, Warwick. Call 781-6121 to register children.

Light Show

Four artists talk about the “Light Show” on Wednesday, June 19 from 6-8 p.m. at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick. How does a single beam of light filmed in HD become a mesmerizing nine-minute video of swirling images? Find out when Shawn Towne talks about his original video at this intriguing artists talk. Other artists who will talk about works in this exhibit are Brooke Hammerle, who creates large-scale digital photographs with visual impact; Deenie Pacik-Guiliano, who fuses glass into vividly colorful pieces; and Bryson Dean Gauthier, who creates provocative 2D and 3D art installations. Learn about their artistic vision, their different light infused mediums and their creative processes. Then meet the artists, ask questions and perhaps buy an original work to start a collection or add to one. This event is free and open to the public, and there’s plenty of free parking behind Warwick City Hall. Not Your Father’s Worship Service

Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick, will hold a Not Your Father’s Service June 22 from 5-6 p.m. Pizza social to follow. Child care is provided during the service.

Conimicut Village Yard Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will host its first annual community-wide yard sale Saturday, June 22 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Conimicut residents who would like to participate and get on the list should email leslie@i-networld.com with your address or should call 737-5559.CVA will consolidate all participating households onto one map, which will be handed out the day of the event.Maps will also be available for download from www.conimicutvillage.org after June 20. Yard Sale

Steel Guitar Jam

Caregivers Journey

The Alzheimers Association Rhode Island Chapter will hold its third annual Caregivers Journey, a conference for Alzheimers caregivers and healthcare professionals. June 25 at The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Warwick, from 8 a.m.-4:15 p.m. This conference features nationally-known keynote speaker and advocate Stephanie Zeman, author of Kisses for Elizabeth. Adult Watercolor Class for Beginners

Tuesdays through June 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bernadette Pace, an experienced instructor and well-known regional artist, will introduce students to basic techniques of watercolor painting learning to use the materials, blending colors, creating dynamic compositions and using watercolor to express creativity. These are encouraging and adventuresome classes for people 17 years and up who want to learn to paint, and students will start seeing things in a new way. Elks Fundraiser

The Elks Riders Lodge #2285 will hold a Motorcycle Ride/Poker Run to benefit the Lupus Foundation of New England on Saturday, June 29 at the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich. Art Camp for Children 6-12

July 8 through August 16 on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creative kids crave summer stimulation, and that’s what they’ll get with art workshops like Make a Monster, Painting, Jewelry Making, Drawing, Improv Comedy, Cartooning and more. Camp runs Monday to Friday with three weeklong workshops at 9-11, 11:30-1:30, 2-4. Workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. Night at the Pawsox

The LaSalle Academy Alumni Association is sponsoring a Night at the Pawsox on July 3 at McCoy Stadium versus the Yankee affiliates, Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders. The evening will start with an all-you-can-eat buffet at 4:15. Then mingle with the players and mascot; tour the historic stadium; watch the game from seats or from the picnic area. At the conclusion of the game, watch wonderful fireworks to celebrate our nations independence. The cost is $30 per person (those under 3 years of age free). Voices of RI Meeting

Lend A Hand Therapeutic Riding Foundation is hosting its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Alpine Country Club, Cranston, August 19. Registration $150/individual golfer.
