Art Workshops

at WMOA

The following drop-by-and-try art concert workshops will be featured as part of the Apponaug Summer Concert series at the Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA) on the following dates:

* Thursday, June 27 - Creative Collages with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, July 11 - Playing with Pastels with Taylor Terreri

* Friday, July 26 - Making Mandalas with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, Aug. 8 - Exploring Watercolors with Patty Martucci

* Thursday, Aug. 22 - Personal Art Journals with Taylor Terriri

Each 90-minute workshop will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and costs $9. Payment can be made by phone with MasterCard or Visa or in person with cash or check. Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Oakland Beach Crime Watch Meeting

There will be a special Oakland Beach Crime Watch meeting June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the JONAH Community Center, 830 Oakland Beach Ave.  Due to recent events in Warwick, other communities have voiced a desire to start a crime watch group in there neighborhood. They will be holding a “How To Start a Crime Watch Group” discussion and instructions. If communities are interested contact OBCW at 732-3401 or email obcwops@gmail.com. They also will be offering a” Refuse To Be a Victim” seminar in July.

Food Pantry

The food pantry of Woodbury Union Church, on the corner of Beach Ave. and West Shore Road in Conimicut Village, will be open Thursday, June 27 from 6:30-8 p.m. Limited food items will be given out to those in need of assistance. Please use the office entrance on Carlisle St. and bring a bag if possible.

Watercolor Class for Beginners

Tuesdays through June 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Bernadette Pace, an experienced instructor and well-known regional artist, will introduce students to basic techniques of watercolor painting learning to use the materials, blending colors, creating dynamic compositions and using watercolor to express creativity. These are encouraging and adventuresome classes for people 17 years and up who want to learn to paint, and students will start seeing things in a new way. Cost is $125 for 12 hours of instruction, and a materials list will be sent after registration. Registration is easy by phone with MasterCard or Visa, or stop by with cash or a check. WAAAL Yard Sale

Warwick association for affordable Assisting Living will have a yard sale Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Buttonwoods Community Center parking lot, at the corners of West Shore Rd. and Buttonwood Ave. Come out and support WAAAL.

Elks Fundraiser

The Elks Riders Lodge #2285 will hold a Motorcycle Ride/Poker Run to benefit the Lupus Foundation of New England on Saturday, June 29 at the Coventry-West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich. Cost is $20 per person and registration starts at 9 a.m., with kickstands up at 10:30. Raffles will be held and food will be provided. Steak Fry

Tri City Elks, 1915 West Shore Road, is holding a steak fry Saturday, June 29 at 5 p.m. Steak and mushrooms, french fries salad and $1 drafts. Advance tickets $12 per person, day of the event $15.

Swinging Squares

Ocean State Toastmasters Meeting

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting July 2 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in September. Employment

Program

Westbay Community Action’s Education Services in Warwick will offer a summer youth employment program for young people ages 17 to 24. The program, which runs July 8 through Aug. 16, will cover work-readiness skills as well as work experience. Participants will work 20 hours a week and earn $7.75 an hour. The focus is environmental science. They will introduce beekeeping, tree stewardship and landscaping; they will not handle live bees. There will be one visit to a hive, and everyone will wear protective gear. Call 468-4065.

Art Camp for Children 6-12

July 8 through August 16 on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creative kids crave summer stimulation, and that’s what they’ll get with art workshops like Make a Monster, Painting, Jewelry Making, Drawing, Improv Comedy, Cartooning and more. Camp runs Monday to Friday with three weeklong workshops at 9-11, 11:30-1:30, 2-4. Workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. Cost of each weeklong workshop is $80; cost for a week of three workshops is $225 (a savings of $15). Registration is easy by phone with MasterCard or Visa, or stop by with cash or check. Falling Thru

the Cracks

Artists’ Exchange will feature Falling Thru the Cracks Friday, July 5 and Saturday, July 6 at 8 p.m. in Theatre 82. Tickets are $10 in advance, $14 at door. The life story, lessons and heartfelt moments from two class clowns with a shared dream of lives to be remembered. A mix of stand-up comedy style storytelling, video sketches and movies drenched in charisma. Theatre 82 is located at 82 Rolfe Square in Cranston. Meeting

The Voices of RI chapter of the Colon Cancer Alliance will hold their next monthly meeting July 6 at 10 a.m. in the small meeting room of Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick.
