Pontiac Free Library

There are various summer activities at the Pontiac Free Library.

Summer Reading program 2013, “Dig Into Reading,” an independent reading program for children from preschool to grade 6. Sign up now.

Storytimes for ages 3-6 Tuesdays at 10 a.m. through July 30.

Craft programs for ages 6-12. Make a pop-up puppet July 11 at 3 p.m. Fun with plants July 25 at 3 p.m. Please register with the librarian.

Ladies Only Golf League

SNAC Opening Reception

The opening reception for Southern New England Artist Community Group Show will be Wednesday, July 10 from 6-8 p.m. Stop by and see the inaugural exhibit by SNAC featuring nine artists from southern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The show includes original paintings, watercolors, 2D and 3D assemblages, mixed media sculpture, photography, and collage/recycled materials. SNAC artists exhibit in Boston, New York and other galleries in the northeast; the reception gives residents a chance to meet the artists, ask about their creative process and how they use various media. Gorton High Luncheon

Playing with Pastels

The “Playing with Pastels” Workshop will be held July 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick. Taylor Terreri, URI fine arts grad and Warwick native, will lead an art workshop on pastels. The drop-by-and-try format is for beginners ages 12 and up, and all workshops are held inside so weather is not a factor. Cost is $9 per person (materials included) and you can register in advance with MasterCard or Visa or just drop by and try art. Tin Cup Junior Camps

Tin Cup Golf Course & Driving Range in Coventry. July Camp: Fridays, July 12, 19 and 26, 10 a.m.-noon. August Camp: Fridays August 2, 9, 16 and 23, 10 a.m.-noon. Ages 7 to 17 eligible. Free Concert

at Conimicut Point Park

The Warwick Summer Concert in the Park Series kicks off Wednesday, July 17 at Conimicut Point Park at 6:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Bayside Beat, a Conimicut Village-based band playing classic rock and country. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy the music and the view. The concert is free of charge and runs from 6:30-8 pm.

Considering Adoption?

Adoption Options is holding a free informational session those considering adoption and interested in hearing about available options. Licensed adoption workers will be available to provide information and answer questions. The next meeting is scheduled for July 18 from 6-7 p.m. at 959 North Main St., in Providence. Adoption Options, a non-sectarian, non-profit, comprehensive adoption program of Jewish Family Service works with prospective adoptive parents, birth parents and people who have been adopted. The agency is licensed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, with offices in Attleboro and Providence. The agency’s work with all members of the adoption triad is focused on helping individuals to understand their options and make the most informed choices for their future. Daughters of Isabella

The Rhode State Circle of the Daughters of Isabella is holding its annual fundraiser July 21 to be held with an 11 a.m. brunch at the Riviera Restaurant, 580 North Broadway, East Providence, followed by a play, “Hollywood Arms,” presented by The Community Players in Pawtucket at 2 p.m. Cost is $35, raffles and split the pot. One-Act Play Festival

Artist’s Exchange will present their 8th annual One Act Play Festival Wave I July 12-21; Wave II July 26-Aug. 4 Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 at door. Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School will be held at Woodbury Union Church July 29 to Aug. 2 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. The theme is “Everywhere Fun Fair,” a circus theme for ages 3 years to 4th grade. Deadline to register is July 15.

Bible Time

Variety Show

Trudeau Memorial Center presents its first country & western variety show July 26 at 11 a.m. at the Larkin Recreational Building. Music, dance, magic, roping and much more will be featured. Please arrive at 10:30 for great pre-show events.

Art Camp for Children 6-12

There is an Art Camp for children ages 6-12 through August 16 on weekdays from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Creative kids crave summer stimulation, and that’s what they’ll get with art workshops like Make a Monster, Painting, Jewelry Making, Drawing, Improv Comedy, Cartooning and more. Camp runs Monday to Friday with three weeklong workshops at 9-11, 11:30-1:30, 2-4. Workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. Cost of each weeklong workshop is $80; cost for a week of three workshops is $225 (a savings of $15). Registration is easy by phone with MasterCard or Visa, or stop by with cash or check. Youth Employment Program

Westbay Community Action’s Education Services in Warwick will offer a summer youth employment program for young people ages 17 to 24. The program, which runs through Aug. 16, will cover work-readiness skills as well as work experience. Participants will work 20 hours a week and earn $7.75 an hour. The focus is environmental science. They will introduce beekeeping, tree stewardship and landscaping; they will not handle live bees. There will be one visit to a hive, and everyone will wear protective gear. Call 468-4065.

Lend A Hand Therapeutic Riding Foundation is hosting its 6th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Alpine Country Club, Cranston, August 19. Registration $150/individual golfer. Pilgrim Senior Center Trips
