Crime Watch Meeting

The Oakland Beach Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting will be held tonight, July 25, at 6:30 p.m. at JONAH Community Center, 830 Oakland Beach Ave. Last month citizens from the Buttonwoods neighborhood attended to learn how to start their own neighborhood watch. If any other Warwick communities would like to start a watch group, you are welcome to come to the meeting. The Warwick Community Police attend every meeting. Also, Oakland Beach Crime Watch will be sponsoring a “Refuse To Be A Victim” Crime Prevention and Personal Safety Seminar, Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact George Davis at 739-8325 or 732-3401 or Jeremy Jordan at 742-2364 or jjordan78@icloud.com to pre-register. Free Library

There are various summer activities at the Pontiac Free Library.

Summer Reading program 2013, “Dig Into Reading,” an independent reading program for children from preschool to grade 6. Sign up now.

Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Summer

Art Camp

Kids crave creative stimulation, and Summer Art Camp will keep them busy. All workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. Best bets for registration are Creative Collages and Making Mosaics (week of July 29, 11:30-1:30 and 2-4), Improv Comedy and Art of the World (week of Aug. 5 from 9-11 a.m.). Other workshops also have openings so call for availability. Workshops are $80 each and a week of three workshops is $225 (a savings of $15).  Registration is easy by phone with MasterCard or Visa, or stop by Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, with cash or check. Food Pantry

The food pantry of Woodbury Union Church on the corner of Beach Ave. and West Shore Road in Conimicut Village will be open July 25 from 6:30-8 p.m.

Limited food items will be given out to those in need of assistance. Please use the office entrance on Carlisle St. and bring a bag if possible.

Tin Cup Junior Camps

Tin Cup Golf Course & Driving Range in Coventry. July Camp: Friday, July 26, 10 a.m.-noon. August Camp: Fridays August 2, 9, 16 and 23, 10 a.m.-noon. Ages 7 to 17 eligible. All aspects of the game will be covered, including driving, full swing, pitching, chipping, putting, rules & etiquette. Fun tourney, lunch & prizes on final day of each camp. One-Act Play

Festival

Artist’s Exchange will present their 8th annual One Act Play Festival Wave II July 26-Aug. 4 Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 advance, $20 at door. Making Mandalas

Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, is holding an art workshop, Making Mandalas, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. Patty Martucci will lead an art workshop on creating colorful Mandalas, the international symbol of wholeness that connects minds and bodies to the infinite. The drop-by-and-try workshop format is for ages 12 and up, and all workshops are held inside so weather is never a factor. Cost of the workshop is $9 per person (materials included). Country/Western Variety Show

Trudeau Memorial Center presents its first country & western variety show July 26 at 11 a.m. at the Larkin Recreational Building. Music, dance, magic, roping and much more will be featured. Please arrive at 10:30 for great pre-show events.

Candlelight Vigil

A candlelight vigil will be held Saturday, July 27 at 7:30 p.m. in City Park, Warwick for murder victim John Fay. John was murdered while taking his daily jog through the community park on May 17. Family and friends are looking to come together with the community to help put an end to senseless violence. The family is still grieving for the loss and they are hoping that the vigil will help the community understand that he was deeply loved and they need their help to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice. Free Community Lunch

There will be a free community lunch & food pantry Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. All are welcome. Please don’t arrive before 10:30 am. RIPTA #3 Warwick Ave – Hoxsie Four Corners stop at West Shore Nursing Home next to St. Mark’s.

Here Again Band

Tri City Elks #14, 1915 West Shore Road, Warwick will present the Here Again band July 27. Tickets are $5. Band starts at 8:30; kitchen opens at 7:30.

18th Century

Encampment

There will be an 18th century encampment at Conimicut point Park July 27 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., featuring demonstrations of firing muskets and cannons and drilling. Fun for the kids practicing drills with wooden muskets, camp life and a small battle demonstration, British soldiers and colonial soldiers – a bit of history here.

Swinging Squares

Swinging Squares of RI Square Dance Summer Plus Workshops will be held on Monday, July 29 from 7-10 p.m. at East Smithfield Neighborhood Center, 7 Esmond St., Smithfield. Fee is $6 per person. Caller is Bob Butler. Contact Louise at 724-7295 for more information.

Lung Association Fundraiser

Alex & Ani is hosting a fundraiser for the American Lung Association July 31 from 6-8 p.m. The store is located at 232 Main St., East Greenwich. You can stop in earlier and tell them not to ring in the item until those hours if you can’t make it during that time. Chances to win a prize. Auditions

The Rhode Island Children’s Chorus will hold auditions for new chorus members Aug. 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Cardi’s Furniture, 1681 Quaker Lane (Rt. 2) West Warwick (Exit 8 off Route 95) and Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the RI Philharmonic Music School Carter Center, 667 Waterman Ave., East Providence. Boys and girls ages 7-18 years are invited to meet with director Dr. Christine Noel for a brief interview and vocal audition. No prior singing experience or appointment is necessary. The audition is private and will take about 10 minutes. Children auditioning and accepted into the chorus may choose to attend classes at either the East Providence or East Greenwich locations. Tri City Elks Lodge #14, 1915 West Shore Rd., Warwick, is having a family picnic Saturday, Aug. 10 at 12 noon. Advance tickets are $15 at the bar. Children under 5 get in free, ages 6-12 $5.
