Pontiac Free Library

There are various summer activities at the Pontiac Free Library.

Summer Reading program 2013, “Dig Into Reading,” an independent reading program for children from preschool to grade 6. Sign up now.

Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Summer Art Camp

Kids crave creative stimulation, and Summer Art Camp will keep them busy. All workshops are taught by experienced instructors with emphasis on trying new materials, stretching imaginations and having fun in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. Best bets for registration are Creative Collages and Making Mosaics (week of July 29, 11:30-1:30 and 2-4), Improv Comedy and Art of the World (week of Aug. 5 from 9-11 a.m.). Other workshops also have openings so call for availability. Lung Association Fundraiser

Alex & Ani is hosting a fundraiser for the American Lung Association July 31 from 6-8 p.m. The store is located at 232 Main St., East Greenwich. You can stop in earlier and tell them not to ring in the item until those hours if you can’t make it during that time. Chances to win a prize. New Member Auditions

The Rhode Island Children’s Chorus will hold auditions for new chorus members Aug. 1 from 4-7 p.m. at Cardi’s Furniture, 1681 Quaker Lane (Rt. 2) West Warwick (Exit 8 off Route 95) and Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the RI Philharmonic Music School Carter Center, 667 Waterman Ave., East Providence. Boys and girls ages 7-18 years are invited to meet with director Dr. Christine Noel for a brief interview and vocal audition. Intertribal Powwow

The American Indian Federation, Inc. will present the 78th Annual Intertribal Powwow Aug. 3 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the American Indian Federation Hall Grounds, 1 Indian St., North Kingstown. One-Act Play Festival

Art Camp for Children 6-12

Youth Employment Program

Westbay Community Action’s Education Services in Warwick will offer a summer youth employment program for young people ages 17 to 24. The program, which runs through Aug. 16, will cover work-readiness skills as well as work experience. Participants will work 20 hours a week and earn $7.75 an hour. The focus is environmental science. They will introduce beekeeping, tree stewardship and landscaping; they will not handle live bees. There will be one visit to a hive, and everyone will wear protective gear. Call 468-4065.
