Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Free Community Lunch

There will be a free community lunch and food pantry Saturday, Aug. 31 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. All are welcome. Please don’t arrive before 10:30 am. RIPTA #3 Warwick Ave – Hoxsie Four Corners stop at West Shore Nursing Home next to St. Mark’s.

Tri City Elks Events

Upcoming events at the Tri City Elks Lodge on West Shore Road includes the following:

Roger Ceresi All Starz Band, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. $10 tickets available at the bar.

Pig Roast Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. Pig with wall the fixings and live music. $20 per ticket.

Oldies Hoop Shoot Sept. 8 from 12-4 p.m. Chicken BBQ dinner after the shoot. $15. Contact Steve Lagesse at 413-5888.

Pink Heals

The Pink Heals National Tour, a non-profit cancer awareness organization, will be in Oakland Beach Labor Day, Sept. 2. A parade starts at 2 p.m. and ends at the sea wall. Gaspee Seniors

On Sept. 3 at 1:15 p.m. Gaspee Seniors will be meeting at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road. We will be playing bingo; please bring a marker and small bills. Refreshments will be provided by Ruth Abbott, Delores Bartoszewicz, Helen Blair and Joan Briggs. Blood Drive

There will be a blood drive at the Church of Christ the King Church Hall, 124 Legris Ave., West Warwick, Sept. 4 from 4-7 p.m. “Give the Gift of Life.”

Fall Ladies Instructional League

Fall Ladies Only Instructional League at Tin Cup Golf Course will be held Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4 and 11. The Summer League is a huge success, so they are having a Fall League for those who enjoy the cooler temperatures. The league starts with a Sept. 6 clinic. Six holes of on-the-course instruction & league play each week begins Sept. 13 Fridays at 11 a.m. Lunch and prizes on Oct. 11. Featuring Rhode Island’s top golf instructors. Bingo

Bingo will be held at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane, Sept. 7. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6. Air-conditioned, fun, prizes, refreshments.

Chicken Dinner

Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick, will hold a chicken dinner Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. Menu includes roasted chicken, baked potato, corn on the cob, salad, coffee and dessert. Wine Tasting Silent Fundraiser

The third annual wine tasting silent fundraiser at Beso’s will be held Sept. 8 from 5-8 p.m. to benefit London Bridge. Send ticket requests with payment to 165 Duke St., East Greenwich, RI 02818.

Memorial Cancer Walk

The fifth annual Kerri McClean Memorial Cancer Walk to benefit women with gynecological cancer and their families will be held Sept. 8 at Warwick City Park on Asylum Road. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds go to “Women in Need” and “Integrative Care Service” programs at Women & Infants’ Hospital in memory of Kerri McClean, who succumbed to a five-year battle with cervical cancer in 2009. Complimentary Reiki, reflexology, massage, chiropractic and astrology services will be offered. Refreshments will be provided. Baskets and gist cards will be raffled. $25 registration fee; survivors walk free. For more information call 463-7895.

Swinging Squares

Swinging Squares Dance Club of RI’s Fun Night, open to all singles or couples who want to learn to square dance, will be held Sept. 9 from 7-9:30 p.m. at East Smithfield Neighborhood Center, 7 Esmond St., Smithfield. Free for this night. Contact Louise at 724-7295.

Women’s Bowling League

St. Peter’s Women’s Bowling League has several openings for this year’s bowling. They meet Monday evenings at 6:15 p.m. at Meadowbrook Bowling Alley, Warwick Ave. First week of bowling is Sept. 9. Daughters of Isabella

All current members of St. Benedict’s Daughters of Isabella, come and join the business meeting on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. They will be meeting in the school at St. Benedicts.

Beginner Line Dance Classes

Starting Sept. 9 and running through June 9, 2014, Tri-City Elks #14 will be holding beginner line dance classes every Sunday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at 1915 West Shore Road. All ages are welcomed. Cost is $6 per person. For more information call Lori at 821-4361 or the lodge at 737-9510.

Goodwill Collecting Electronics

On Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island will be collecting donations of old electronics, clothing, leather goods and small toys at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, 99 Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Goodwill takes all items that have a plug, including TVs, even if they no longer work. One hundred percent of the revenue generated from this program helps to provide job training, education and social services that result in employment and economic opportunities for residents of Rhode Island with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

Junior Golf Clinics

Fall Junior Golf Clinics at Tin Cup Golf Course & Driving Range are every Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m. for seven weeks, Sept. 14 through Oct. 26 for ages 5 to 17. For details and to register call 744-8141.

Moving and Shaking Zumbathon

There will be a Moving and Shaking Zumbathon in memory of Hortence Cotta to benefit A.L.S. Sept. 14 from 9-11 a.m. at Elks Tri-City Lodge #14, 1915 West Shore Road.
