Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Cocktails by the Cove

George and Stephanie Shuster will host “Cocktails by the Cove,” a fundraiser for the Buckeye Brook Coalition, at their home, 15 River Vue Ave., on Sept. 28. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

The invitation calls on guests to, “Enjoy local beer and wine and hors d’oeuvres with a view of Mill Cove, Narragansett Bay, and Conimicut Light, while helping to raise funds to protect and preserve your local watershed.”

Silent Auction prizes include a custom saltwater fishing rod, framed prints of local fish, and more.

Fall Ladies Instructional League

Fall Ladies Only Instructional League at Tin Cup Golf Course will be held Sept. 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4 and 11. Six holes of on-the-course instruction and league play each week begins Sept. 13 Fridays at 11 a.m. Lunch and prizes on Oct. 11. Featuring Rhode Island’s top golf instructors. Goodwill Collecting Electronics

On Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Goodwill Industries of Rhode Island will be collecting donations of old electronics, clothing, leather goods and small toys at Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church, 99 Peirce Street, East Greenwich. Goodwill takes all items that have a plug, including TVs, even if they no longer work. One hundred percent of the revenue generated from this program helps to provide job training, education and social services that result in employment and economic opportunities for residents of Rhode Island with disabilities and other barriers to employment.

Military Vehicle Show

The 13th annual Military Vehicle Show, sponsored by the Rhode Island Military & Vehicle Collectors Club, will be held Sept. 14, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sept. 15 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Quonset Air Museum, 488 Eccleston Ave., North Kingstown. Junior Golf Clinics

Moving and Shaking Zumbathon

There will be a Moving and Shaking Zumbathon in memory of Hortence Cotta to benefit A.L.S. Sept. 14 from 9-11 a.m. at Elks Tri-City Lodge #14, 1915 West Shore Road. Steak Fry

Saints Rose & Clement Parish will be hosting a steak fry Sept. 14 in the church hall. Come and enjoy a delicious dinner of steak, baked potato, mixed veggies and dessert. Cocktails (cash bar) will begin at 6:15 p.m., dinner at 7:15. Tickets are $20 per person and may be purchased at the Parish Office or by calling 739-0212.

Apprentice School Registration

Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Sept. 19 at their new location, the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be finalizing plans for the upcoming bake sale in September and dog walk in October. Bake Sale

On Sept. 21 Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold a bake sale at the Community Booth at Warwick Mall from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. In addition to baked items we will also have t-shirts and sweatshirts for sale. New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar will have a meeting Sept. 22 from 1-5 p.m. at Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich. The Rednecks will be the featured band. Donation is $7.

Scleroderma Support Group

The next scleroderma support group meeting is planned for Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at Roger Williams Medical Center, 825 Chalkstone Ave., Providence, in the first floor treatment room. Guest speaker is Jeffrey M. Mazer, M.D., pulmonologist, on the topic of rehabilitation for scleroderma patients. For more information contact Carole Cowell at 781-5013.

Daughters of Isabella

Due to the construction at St. Benedict Parish Center, St. Benedict Circle #423, Daughters of Isabella is postponing our annual Cash Bingo fundraiser that is usually held in September, until Saturday, Nov. 16.

Community Tag Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will be hosting its 2nd Community-Wide Tag Sale Oct. 4 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Maps can be downloaded from www.conimicutvillage.org to the locations of those participating. For residents living in Conimicut who would like to participate (this is free) and get on the list/map, email conimicutvillage@aol.com with your address. Advertising will be statewide.

Taste of the Tour Exhibit

Warwick Museum of Art (WMOA), 3259 Post Road, is helping West Bay Open Studios (WBOS) celebrate the 5th anniversary of their popular Studio Tours with a “taste of the tour” exhibit that runs through Oct. 2. Original works by 23 WBOS artists will be showcased in the main gallery and at four special events that are open to the public free of charge. Tonight’s exhibit is WBOS Artist Demonstrations from 5-7 p.m. Warwick artist Carole Berren will demonstrate watercolors, and other artists will show how they create fused glass, photography, hand-lettering, plein air oil painting and fiber art. Historic Cemetery Cleanup

Behind Picasso’s Pizza there is a historic cemetery, Warwick Cemetery #30 – called Hart Lot – at the end of Call St. in need of minor maintenance. Only one field stone can be seen. Brush and leaves have invaded the cemetery and need to be removed. The Warwick Historic Commission is looking for volunteers to clean the cemetery on Oct. 5 at 9 a.m. Contact Connie Gliottone or Debra McDaniel at 921-4395 or cotink78@yahoo.com if you would like to help. Picasso’s is offering free food and water to participants.

St. Rita’s Autumn Bazaar

St. Rita’s Women’s Club is looking for vendors for their autumn bazaar, to be held Saturday, Oct. 12 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at St. Rita’s Church. Tables cost $20. Call Joan at 739-0239.

SAL Comedy Night

Kent Hospital Auxiliary Fashion Show

Kent Hospital Auxiliary will hold a fashion show on Oct. 26 at Quidnessett Country Club, North Kingstown. Luncheon will be served at 12 p.m. Fashions are provided by Coldwater Creek and Gown Town. Tickets are $35. Doors open at 11 for shopping from local vendors that have been invited to participate. Raffles and special events will occur throughout the event. This fundraising event will support the Auxiliary’s $1 million pledge to Kent Hospital’s capital campaign and the renovation of the Dialysis Unit/3 North. Christmas in New York

On Saturday, Dec. 7, the Greenwich Bay Women’s Club is sponsoring a daytrip to New York City. Come see the Christmas lights, shop for the holidays, take in a play – it’s up to you. The bus leaves R.I. at 7 a.m. and will drop you off mid-town. Enjoy your day, then head for home without having to drive. Pilgrim Senior Center Trips

Line Dance Classes

Aphasia Conversation Group

On the second Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m., Sargent Rehabilitation Center, 800 Quaker Lane, Warwick, holds an aphasia conversation group. This group provides a supportive meeting place for people with aphasia to socialize and share their communication challenges and strategies.
