West Bay Chorale

The West Bay Chorale welcomes new and former members, male and female, all ages. If you like to sing, attend rehearsals at Edgewood Congregational Church, 1788 Broad Street, Cranston, from 7-9:30 p.m. on Monday evenings. No audition necessary. GFWC

The GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) Warwick Women’s Club will hold its annual membership drive at the meeting to be held Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center in Warwick. The Warwick Women’s Club is a civic/community-minded club that provides funds for local organizations such as the EBCC and provides services and support for organizations such as the Norwood Boys’ and Girls’ Club, R.I. Team Portfolio Showcase Night

Gorton Junior High School will be having Team Portfolio Showcase Night tonight, Oct. 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. This event is to celebrate and view the student’s academic accomplishments and their growth from 6th grade until now.  All family members are welcome, and refreshments will be served.

Conimicut Village

Improvement Workshop

A community workshop is scheduled to update the Conimicut Village Master Plan. The event will be an open exchange of ideas for improving the village with the goal of identifying future projects to include in the 2014 Conimicut Village Master Plan, an essential first step in accessing grant funds for use in the village area. The workshop is open to all Conimicut residents and will take place Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the William Shields American Legion Post 43, 662 West Shore Road. Please join Conimicut Village Association members and share your vision for Conimicut’s future. Civil War Talk

Join Warwick author Les Rolston for a talk about his latest book "Home of the Brave: In Their Own Words-Immigrant Soldiers Who Received the Medal of Honor During the Civil War," on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Digging into U.S. Medal of Honor records, Rolston pulls out the stories of heroic immigrant soldiers, from their childhoods overseas through their battlefield feats in the Civil War. Rolston's first book, "Lost Soul: A Confederate Soldier In New England," received citations from the Rhode Island House of Representatives, a commendation from former United States Senator Claiborne Pell and the Jefferson Davis Medal, the United Daughters of the Confederacy's highest award. Norwood Neighborhood Association

A general meeting of the Norwood Neighborhood Association will be held Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The guest speaker will be Kelly Fredericks, president and CEO of the Airport Corp. He will provide an update on current and future airport construction initiatives leading to the main runway extension. Also, there will be a police crime update report and a housing-issues-committee-status review. Refreshments and snacks will be served. All are welcome.

Louise Erdrich's "Love Medicine"

Learn how Native American themes in Louise Erdrich's novel "Love Medicine" connect with New England's indigenous communities at Warwick Public Library Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Join Narragansett elder, oral historian, and author Dawn Dove and indigenous educators and activists from the Mohawk, Narragansett, Niantic, and Ramapaugh nations for a panel discussion of the book. Louise Erdrich's first novel is a powerful and poetic multigenerational portrait of two families living on and around a Chippewa reservation in North Dakota. Indigenous Cultures Discuss "Love Medicine" is sponsored by Arts Midwest, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Tomaquag Museum and Warwick Public Library. All You Can Eat Spaghetti Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having an All You Can Eat spaghetti supper on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The menu includes the dinner, salad, beverages and homemade desserts.  The cost for adults is $8, children 12 and under $4. Children 5 and under are free. Come early, it sells out quick.

Jewelry Making Class

Jewelry-Making Class for ages 13 and up is open at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. The class introduces students to basic techniques as they create necklaces, earrings, cast pendants and jewel boxes. Using metals, costume jewelry, plus found objects and materials, students will create unique, wearable art under the guidance of certified instructor Kerri Fletcher Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2, 9 and 16. Bark at the Moon

The Little Rhodie Bully Breed Club, Inc. is collaborating with the National Coast-to-Coast Bully Walk at their annual Bark at the Moon event Oct. 26 at Warwick City Park. The walk begins at 10:45 a.m. and run from noon to 3:30 p.m. Events include an agility course for dogs, bounce house, fall photos, hay rides, interactive bite prevention play for kids, raffles, vendors and shopping, a Halloween costume contest for the dogs, and much more. All are welcome. Come have fun and meet other dog lovers. Bring awareness to a misunderstood type of dog. Support a great cause. Dogs may register upon arrival. A $5 donation per dog is appreciated upon registration.  All donations go towards helping homeless shelter dogs in Rhode Island. Arts & Crafts Festival

SS. Rose and Clement Parish, 111 Long St., Warwick, is having a Winter Wonderland Arts and Crafts Festival Oct. 25 from 5-9 p.m. (Special menu and penny social for kids) and Oct. 26 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Featuring crafters from Ocean State Artisans, Christmas and seasonal crafts and gifts, religious good, baked goods, white elephant sale, penny social, all-day snack bar (including a Hot Baked Potato Bar), giant raffle, mystery envelope and more. 10th Annual Howloween Bash

The animal shelter will be having its annual Halloween party Oct. 26 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 475 Sandy Lane, Warwick, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 and includes dinner. There will be a DJ, karaoke, dancing, raffles, costume contest and cash bar. Costumes are optional, adults only and no pets. All proceeds benefit shelter animals. Kent Hospital Auxiliary Fashion Show

Kent Hospital Auxiliary will hold a fashion show on Oct. 26 at Quidnessett Country Club, North Kingstown. Luncheon will be served at 12 p.m. Fashions are provided by Coldwater Creek and Gown Town. Tickets are $35. Doors open at 11 for shopping from local vendors that have been invited to participate. Raffles and special events will occur throughout the event. This fundraising event will support the Auxiliary’s $1 million pledge to Kent Hospital’s capital campaign and the renovation of the Dialysis Unit/3 North. Halloween Party

The William Shields Jr. American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Unit #43, is sponsoring a Children’s Halloween Party on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Post Home from 2 to 5 p.m. Cost is $3 per child.  Hot Dogs, punch and chips will be served along with games, prizes and surprises. Tickets are available at the Post or by calling Kathy Johnson at 941-2486. Ticket deadline is Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Tri City Elks Events

Shepherd of the Valley Chili Cook-off

The Great Chili Cook-off is being sponsored by the Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Women, 604 Seven Mile Road, Hope. For tickets, call the church office at 821-8717. Menu will feature a wide variety of chili, salad, corn bread, dessert and beverage. As an alternative, there will be American Chop Suey. The cook-off will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12, and under 5 free. Come and vote for your favorite chili. The winner will get an award. There will also be a silent auction. Come and enjoy.

Chopstick Auction

Volunteers of Warwick Schools will hold its popular chopstick auction Nov. 2 at Buttonwoods Community Center. VOWS is seeking contributions of new items to auction during this fundraiser. If you would like to contribute a gift certificate or a gift that would be appropriate for a man, woman or child, contact the VOWS office at 734-3230 or drop items off at VOWS located at the Drum Rock Early Childhood Center, 575 Centerville Road, Warwick. Items should be dropped off by Oct. 18. All proceeds from this event support the work of Volunteers of Warwick Schools.

St. Kevin Bingo

St. Kevin parishioners will hold a bingo Saturday, Nov. 2 at the church hall at 333 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6. There will be prizes and refreshments.

It’s time for the West Warwick Animal Shelter’s holiday bazaar to be held Nov. 2, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Church of the Apostles, 170 Fairview Ave, Coventry. Rhode Island Master Plumbers

Rhode Island Master Plumbers Association Inc. will present a roundtable discussion Nov. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the F.W. Webb Co., 101 Jefferson Blvd. Warwick. The topic will be New 2013 Codes - Pertaining to 1 and 2 Family Dwellings. Building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes will be reviewed, featuring representatives from the Office of the State Building Commissioner. Due to the construction at St. Benedict Parish Center, St. Benedict Circle #423, Daughters of Isabella is postponing their annual Cash Bingo fundraiser that is usually held in September until Nov. 16.
