Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become a member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

Turkey trot Nov. 1, 6:30 p.m. dinner, 7:30-9:30 turkey raffles along with many other raffle items.

Bingo Nov. 8 and 22 6:30 p.m. Kitchen opens at 4:30.

The Here Again Band Show Nov. 16, starts at 8:30. Kitchen opens at 6:30, $5 cover.

Nov. 16 Tri City Elks yard sale and craft fair 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Tables available to rent for $10 to sell your old stuff or your crafts. Contact Lori at 529-9212.

Don’t forget country line dancing every Monday 7-8:30 p.m. Cost $6. Instructed by Lori Enos.

Holiday Cards & Gift Tags Workshops

Ages 15+ will get into the spirit of the holidays by designing personalized greeting cards and artful gift tags at these two-hour workshops Nov. 2 and 16 at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Warwick artist Patty Martucci leads these creative and free-spirited workshops from 10 a.m.-12 noon. $15 per workshop includes materials; early registration is encouraged by phone (using MasterCard or Visa) or by stopping by during gallery hours. Shepherd of the Valley Chili Cook-off

The Great Chili Cook-off is being sponsored by the Shepherd of the Valley United Methodist Women, 604 Seven Mile Road, Hope. For tickets, call the church office at 821-8717. Menu will feature a wide variety of chili, salad, corn bread, dessert and beverage. As an alternative, there will be American chop suey. The cook-off will be held Saturday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 12, and under 5 free. Come and vote for your favorite chili. The winner will get an award. There will also be a silent auction. Come and enjoy.

Jewelry Making Class

Jewelry-Making Class for ages 13 and up is open at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. The class introduces students to basic techniques as they create necklaces, earrings, cast pendants and jewel boxes. Using metals, costume jewelry, plus found objects and materials, students will create unique, wearable art under the guidance of certified instructor Kerri Fletcher Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 2, 9 and 16. Chopstick Auction

Volunteers of Warwick Schools will hold its popular chopstick auction Nov. 2 at Buttonwoods Community Center. VOWS is seeking contributions of new items to auction during this fundraiser. If you would like to contribute a gift certificate or a gift that would be appropriate for a man, woman or child, contact the VOWS office at 734-3230 or drop items off at VOWS located at the Drum Rock Early Childhood Center, 575 Centerville Road, Warwick. Items should be dropped off by Oct. 18. All proceeds from this event support the work of Volunteers of Warwick Schools.

St. Kevin Bingo

St. Kevin parishioners will hold a bingo Saturday, Nov. 2 at the church hall at 333 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 5 p.m. and bingo starts at 6. There will be prizes and refreshments.

Vendors/Crafters Wanted

It’s time for the West Warwick Animal Shelter’s holiday bazaar to be held Nov. 2, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Church of the Apostles, 170 Fairview Ave, Coventry. They are renting out 10-foot tables for $10. Tables are limited. Application bazaar deadline is Oct. 20. For application or more information call Michelle at 450-2145.

Apponaug Babe Ruth Registration

Apponaug Babe Ruth Baseball 2014 registration and American Legion William Shields Post 43 open house with free breakfast will be held Nov. 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 662 West Shore Road. Sign up your child for ABRBL 2014 season and parent and player both receive free breakfast. All veterans are welcome to come during the open house. Pasta Dinner & Raffle

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will host their 9th annual pasta dinner and raffle Nov. 2 from 5-7 p.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Ave., Warwick. Scandinavian Brunch

There will be a Scandinavian brunch held at Star Lodge 56 Vasa Order of America, Vasa Hall, 43 Bald Hill Road, Cranston, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Donation is adults $10, under 12 $5. Swinging Squares of RI Workshops

St. Benedict Circle #423, Daughters of Isabella will be holding their monthly meeting Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. All members are invited to attend. Please bring a canned good as well as any items to make up baskets for the upcoming bingo on Nov. 16 at St. William’s Parish Hall. Gift certificates and completed baskets would also be welcomed.

Toys For Tots

Raymour and Flanigan Furniture will be supporting Toys For Tots this holiday season. The toy campaign will being Nov. 4 and end on Dec. 12. A drop box will be placed in the Warwick location at 444 Quaker Lane, Warwick. Contact the store at 589-2053 with questions.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Nov. 5 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013. East Greenwich-Warwick Garden Club

The East Greenwich-Warwick Garden Club will meet Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. at the home of club member Barbara DelBonis, 115 Fry Brook Drive, East Greenwich, to prepare Thanksgiving baskets for distribution. New members are welcome to attend. For more information call 477-3678.

Rhode Island Master Plumbers

Rhode Island Master Plumbers Association Inc. will present a roundtable discussion Nov. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at the F.W. Webb Co., 101 Jefferson Blvd. Warwick. The topic will be New 2013 Codes - Pertaining to 1 and 2 Family Dwellings. Building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes will be reviewed, featuring representatives from the Office of the State Building Commissioner. United Fly Tyers

The monthly meeting of United Fly Tyers of Rhode Island will be held Nov. 6 at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, 475 Sandy Lane at 6:30 p.m. We encourage possible new members to drop in and see what we are all about. They will have a short business meeting followed by experienced tyers instructing the members on salt and fresh water fly patterns. There will also be bucket raffles for a chance on winning fly tying materials. New and old members are welcome.

Breakfast/Blood Drive

In loving memory of Eddie Cronin, who died on Nov. 22, 2012, there will be a breakfast and blood drive Nov. 10 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at the JONAH Center on Oakland Beach Ave. Cost is $8. Breakfast includes eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, home fries, toast, coffee, tea and juice. Raffle tickets available for purchase; great prizes and baskets filled with goodies. Bill Burke Variety Show

Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes back Bill Burke in The Variety Show Nov. 13 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson Building cafeteria. For over 20 years, Bill has been singing and acting professionally throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He provides exciting entertainment for al audiences and all occasions.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

The Knights of Columbus Council #1738 presents their annual Thanksgiving food drive. Their goal is 300 pounds of food by Nov. 15. Bring non-perishable food items (canned goods, bagged foods, etc.) to 1047 Park Ave., Cranston. Call 944-9700 for more information.

Daughters of Isabella

Turkey Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having their annual all you can eat turkey supper Nov. 16 from 4:30-7. This all you can eat dinner includes turkey with vegetables, stuffing, gravy, beverages and our delicious homemade desserts. Cost for adults is $12. Children 12 and under cost $5.  Children under 5 are free.  Come early, this sells out quick.
