Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become a member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

Running through June 9, Tri-City Elks #14 will be holding beginner line dance classes every Monday night from 7-8:30 p.m. at 1915 West Shore Road. All ages are welcomed. Cost is $6 per person. For more information call Lori at 821-4361 or the lodge at 737-9510.

Clothing Collection Drive

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is holding a collection drive for gently used clothing and small household items. Donations help to raise funds to support mentoring programs for boys and girls throughout the state. They offer convenient free home pick-up of donations and provide a tax receipt. Turkey & Ham Meat Raffle

American Legion Post #2, 2 Legion Way, West Warwick, is hosting a turkey and ham meat raffle Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. This event is open to the public. All proceeds benefit American Legion charities. For more information call 821-9855.

Save the Bay Open House

On Sunday, Feb. 9 from 2-4 p.m. there will be an open house at Save the Bay headquarters for marine science summer camp and Edgewood Sailing School youth and adult lessons. Come learn about joint sailing/marine science programs and other “learn to sail” activities. There will be a door prize. Save the Bay Drive, Fields Point, Providence.

New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar will meet Feb. 9 at Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich, from 1-5 p.m. The band will be Branded. Kitchen will be open.

Friends Bingo

The Friends Bingo will be held Feb. 9. Doors open at 11 a.m. This will be a Have a Heart Bingo. Bring a canned good and get a free ticket for a bingo (one per person). They are also collecting toiletries for the homeless. Come bring a friend and have a great time.

Conimicut Village Association

The Conimicut Village Association will meet Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the lower level of Woodbury Union Church. Plans will be finalized for the annual Spring Fling fundraiser. The Community Police officers will be in attendance. All are welcome to see what is happening in your neighborhood. Refreshments will be served.

The Educated Patient

West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will be offering a free informative lecture entitled “Navagating the Hospital: The Educated Patient” Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. This one-hour discussion will provide facts and important information regarding Medicare requirements, inpatient vs. outpatient requirements, and how to obtain services for the next level of care upon discharge. This lecture is pertinent to everyone no matter what the age. Gorton High School Luncheon

Informational Meeting

On Feb. 13 from 10-11 a.m., the VNA of Care New England will conduct a hospice volunteer informational meeting at the VNA of Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick.  Have you ever wondered how you can make the difference in the life of a family whose loved one is in hospice care? Do you want to join with a dedicated hospice volunteer program that provides training and ongoing support in this most rewarding work? Come and find out more about the VNA of Care New England hospice. Voices of RI Meeting

Art Camp for Children & Teens

A new schedule of art sessions for February vacation was announced by Warwick Museum of Art. Returning favorites include Intro to Drawing, Watercolors, Mixed Media, Sculpture, and Improv Comedy; Printmaking and Intro to Acting are new. Camp runs February 17-21 with morning sessions for ages 6-12 and afternoon sessions for ages 13-17. Cost per three-hour session is $25 and there’s a discount for all five. Ocean State Toastmasters to Meet

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting Feb. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island and will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2013. Mixed Media Art Class for Adults

Warwick-based artist Taylor Tererri, whose colorful works can be found at Hasbro Children’s Hospital and URI Health Services, will introduce students 17 and older to the process of combining various mediums like acrylic paint, watercolors, drawing and collage at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. Students will explore composition and use line, color, texture, pattern and symbolism to convey an artful message. The classes run through Feb. 20, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6-8 p.m. for three weeks. Baked Ziti Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave, is having an all-you-can-eat baked ziti supper Feb. 22 from 4:30-7 p.m. Cost for adults is $8, $4 for children 12 years and under. Children under 5 are free. Come and enjoy good food, good company and great homemade desserts.

Winter Indoor Flea Market

St. Benedict Church will have a Winter Indoor Flea Market Feb. 22 and 23, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in St. Benedict Parish Hall, 70 Transit St., Warwick. Something for everyone, treasures galore. Meatball sandwiches, hot weiners and more. Complete restroom facilities and handicapped accessible.

Venison and Game Dinner

The annual Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick venison and game dinner is Feb. 23 at the Kelley Gazzero Post on Plainfield Pike, Cranston. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and there is a cash bar. The proceeds of the event go to support the programs and staff of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Warwick. A great family-style meal of venison, wild boar, rabbit, etc...and great raffles, too. Love Medicine Exhibit

“Love Medicine,” a Native American art exhibit, will be at the Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, now through March 1. Themes of family, passion and cultural identity are explored in this new exhibit of Native American art based on the award-winning novel “Love Medicine” by Louise Erdrich. Showcasing 43 works by 13 artists of the Narragansett, Wampanoag, Choctaw, Navajo, Chicksaw, Mexican Apache and Ojibwe tribes, the exhibit is a unique opportunity to explore traditional and contemporary works in various mediums – beadwork, painting, sculpture, woven and painted fabrics, photography, and ceremonial artifacts. For more information visit us on Facebook or at www.warwickmuseum.org.

Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and over to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The application fee is $20. Deadline for registration is March 15. Community Service

Scholarship Available

The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces its annual Academic and Community Achievement Award. This $1,000 scholarship is available to Warwick high school seniors who have demonstrated an active involvement in community service. To receive a scholarship application, contact the guidance department of your school or request one in writing from Ron Bergeron, Scholarship Chairman, Great Warwick Lions Club, 106 Wilson Place, Warwick RI 02889. The deadline for submission is April 30.

New Gallery Hours at WMOA

The main gallery at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick, is now open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. so exhibits are available to school groups, home-school students and anyone who can stop by on their lunch hour. The main gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for those who work during the week. Friday Comedy Shows

New for 2014,  the Bring Your Own Improv comedy troupe will perform two shows on Fridays at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road: 7-8:30 p.m. Family-Friendly Comedy Show (G-rated laughs) and 9-10:30 p.m. Late Night Comedy Show (PG-13 rated laughs). Kick off your weekend with laughter when BYOI takes audience suggestions, comedy skits morph instantly and the actors react to the silliness onstage. Hi-Lo-Jack League
