Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become a member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

Bingo March 7. Kitchen opens at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

Blood Drive March 11 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Blood Mobile. Pizza & beverages will be served inside the Lodge.

Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will meet March 4 at 7 p.m. at the EBC house. The program will be organic gardening, presented by Master Gardner Dale Gallager. She is also a member of the Apple Blossom Garden Club, and members of her club will be joining for the presentation. 

Divorce Group

The divorce group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. The sessions are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. There will be a 30-40-minute video featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects, followed by a discussion and sharing time. Sessions will begin on March 4 from 6-7:30 p.m. and will meet at the Christ Church Office Condo through May 27. Getting Started Education Series

Family members, caregivers and friends of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or a related memory disorder, are invited to this four-part series to learn, discuss and prepare. You will meet others who share similar concerns and experience. The “Getting Started” education series will be held Tuesday nights through March at the Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence, 3 Shalom Dr., Warwick. Gaspee Seniors

Keno Night

Know What Medications

You Are Taking

West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will present the second lecture of this year, Brown Bag of Drugs: Know What Medications You Are Taking, March 11, at 239 Legris Ave., West Warwick. Learn the importance of your medications, signs and symptoms of concern, and an overview of why your medication has been prescribed for you. Additional pharmaceutical information and handouts will be provided. Speak with a registered pharmacist and have your questions answered. This is a free one-hour lecture. Men’s Senior Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and over to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The application fee is $20. Deadline for registration is March 15. Pasta Dinner & Silent Auction

Boy Scouts of America, Troop 7 Buttonwoods is holding their 13th Annual pasta dinner and silent auction March 15 at Saints Rose and Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick.  Tickets can be purchased at the door, $8 for adults, $6 for children (4-12 years) and children under 4 years old free.  Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Silent auction items include Vera Bradley merchandise, Gamm Theater tickets, Family Night basket, PawSox gift basket, YMCA membership and many more items.

The Big Skate

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State announced their annual “Big Skate” March 29 from 2-4 p.m. featuring free ice skating, crafts and refreshments. Representatives from the URI hockey team will also be on hand to skate with the kids at the Boss Ice Arena on the URI Kingston Campus. All attendees are encouraged to bring their own skates, as rentals may be limited. Participation in the Big Skate is free; however, an RSVP before March 15 is required. Feeding Thousand of Children

On March 22 hundreds of Rhode Island community members will work to feed thousands of starving children in the developing world. Through a partnership between Christ Church and global hunger charity Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), volunteers will prepare 175,000 life-saving meals at an FMSC MobilePack event. The MobilePack will take place March 22 at Advantage Glass, 1560 Elmwood Ave., Cranston. Community members can support this MobilePack by making a donation to cover meal costs or by volunteering to package food at the event. They need to recruit 875 volunteers and raise 22 cents for each meal – $38,500 total – for this MobilePack. Adults and children (K and up) can volunteer on March 22. Benefit Concert & Dinner

The Mustard Seed Farm will be hosting a benefit concert and dinner beginning at 6 p.m. on March 29 at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet, 60 Rhodes Place, Cranston, sponsored by Cat Country to help support  our equine-assisted therapy program. The evening features blues legend, James Montgomery, Dynamic Sounds Unlimited, dinner/appetizer, silent auction, raffles and door prize. The Mustard Seed Farm will be operating a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in East Greenwich that is dedicated to providing equine-assisted therapy for veterans, families and developmentally-challenged children. One of the programs called The Seeds of Courage Program is designed specifically for providing equine-assisted therapy and activities for veterans and emergency responders to support them in personal and professional development. Their programs are designed to challenge, strengthen and enlighten. For tickets call 465-3511. $55 per person, $100 VIP and $25 children 12 and under.

Old England/New England Concert

Warwick Symphony Orchestra and West Bay Chorale will hold a concert March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Kevin’s Church, 333 Sandy Lane, and March 30 at 3 p.m. at CCRI Knight Campus-Hackett Theater, 400 East Ave. Join music directors Catherine Gagnon and Amanda Santo in a celebration of music from Old England to New England – selections by British and American composers. Clothing Collection Drive

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is holding a collection drive for gently used clothing and small household items. Donations help to raise funds to support mentoring programs for boys and girls throughout the state. They offer convenient free home pick-up of donations and provide a tax receipt. East Greenwich Leisure Learning

Do you enjoy learning something new in a fun and friendly environment? East Greenwich Leisure Learning, a membership organization now in its 36th year, welcomes interested adults, regardless of residency, to join them by registering for their upcoming six-week series of 12 lectures and programs. The dates for the spring series are April 3, 10, 24 and May 1, 8 and15, with a morning and afternoon presentation each day. Topics of lectures vary from the practical to the historical, especially Rhode Island history, and anything in between. Programs are held at St. Luke’s Parish House on the corner of Peirce and Church Sts. The registration fee for the series is $15, and members sign up for the entire series. Grief Support Group

Those who are suffering from the loss of a loved one are welcome to come to one or all of the grief support sessions that will be held at the Christ Church Office Condo (61 Cedar Ave., Unit 6, East Greenwich) every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. through June 1. The meetings will begin with a video featuring interviews with leading authors, counselors, speakers and pastors covering a variety of topics to help you deal with your grief, followed by discussion and sharing.
