Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become a member and volunteer. Tri City Elks Events

of the Cross

Stations of the Cross will be held at 6:30 p.m. each Friday in Lent, with the next one March 14 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Rd., Warwick. All are welcome for this moving service recalling Jesus’ final hours.

Men’s Senior

Softball

Registration is now underway for men 57 and over to join the Warwick Senior Softball League. It is a recreational league whose priorities are fun, safety and friendly competition. You do not have to be a Warwick resident to join. All games (double headers) begin at 9 a.m. and are played at City Park in Warwick on Wednesday mornings. The application fee is $20. Deadline for registration is March 15. Pasta Dinner

& Silent Auction

Boy Scouts of America, Troop 7 Buttonwoods is holding their 13th Annual pasta dinner and silent auction March 15 at Saints Rose and Clement Church, 111 Long Street, Warwick.  Tickets can be purchased at the door, $8 for adults, $6 for children (4-12 years) and children under 4 years old free.  Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and everyone is welcome. Silent auction items include Vera Bradley merchandise, Gamm Theater tickets, Family Night basket, PawSox gift basket, YMCA membership and many more items.

Warwick Artist Featured

The opening reception for Art League of RI will be held March 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick. Warwick artist Sharon Eisman is among 29 artists featured in the 2014 Associate Members Exhibit of ALRI now on view in the main gallery at WMOA. The opening reception is an excellent opportunity to meet the artists, learn about their technique, tour the exhibit and enjoy light refreshments. All 44 works are available for purchase and mediums include painting, fine art photography, calligraphy and 3D art installation. The reception is free and open to the public, as are a special screening of “RI Art Archives project” and a gallery talk by Warwick fiber artist Saberah Malik. Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held March 20 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 P.Mp.m. They will be finalizing plans for their breakfast on April 5 and also the craft fair to be held on May 10. Donations are needed for the breakfast. Contact Brenda at 467-2692if you would like to donate an item or gift certificate for the breakfast. All public is invited to attend.

Boiled Dinner

There will be a New England boiled dinner March 22 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Rd. Two seatings available: 6 and 7 p.m. Purchase your ticket for a specific time: $10 adults, $5 children ages 6-12, children under 5 free. Tickets must be purchased by March 16, no tickets at the door. Toastmasters Meeting

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting March 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Ocean State Toastmasters holds its regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. The organization has approximately 280,000 members in 116 countries. Ocean State Toastmasters is one of the oldest clubs in Rhode Island. A general meeting of the Norwood Neighborhood Association will be held March 20 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The guest speaker will be Mayor Scott Avedisian, who will provide an update on local and statewide activity. Refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Figure Skaters Registration

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold an open registration for their spring programs March 22 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Thayer Arena, Sandy Lane, Warwick. Group lessons to begin April 10 are taught by professional instructors. More information is available on www.warwickfs.org.

Feeding Thousand of Children

On March 22 hundreds of Rhode Island community members will work to feed thousands of starving children in the developing world. Through a partnership between Christ Church and global hunger charity Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), volunteers will prepare 175,000 life-saving meals at an FMSC MobilePack event. The MobilePack will take place March 22 at Advantage Glass, 1560 Elmwood Ave., Cranston. Community members can support this MobilePack by making a donation to cover meal costs or by volunteering to package food at the event. They need to recruit 875 volunteers and raise 22 cents for each meal – $38,500 total – for this MobilePack. Adults and children (K and up) can volunteer on March 22. of the Cross

St. Benedict’s Young Adult Choir Keepin’ the Faith will present Mary’s Way of the Cross, Stations with refelctons and music, March 23 at 7 p.m. at St. Benedict’s Church. You are invited to enter an intimate journey of faith through the sorrowful heart of Mary and surrender to God’s will, just as she did.

Supper

The Greater Warwick Lions Club will hold a ham and bean supper March 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave. Tickets are $8 per person and $4 for children under 10. All proceeds will benefit the Lions Club charities. For tickets call Rob Farrell at 527-1996.

The Big Skate

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State announced their annual “Big Skate” March 29 from 2-4 p.m. featuring free ice skating, crafts and refreshments. Representatives from the URI hockey team will also be on hand to skate with the kids at the Boss Ice Arena on the URI Kingston Campus. All attendees are encouraged to bring their own skates, as rentals may be limited. Participation in the Big Skate is free; however, an RSVP before March 15 is required. Old England/New England Concert

Warwick Symphony Orchestra and West Bay Chorale will hold a concert March 29 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Kevin’s Church, 333 Sandy Lane, and March 30 at 3 p.m. at CCRI Knight Campus-Hackett Theater, 400 East Ave. Join music directors Catherine Gagnon and Amanda Santo in a celebration of music from Old England to New England – selections by British and American composers. Trivia Night

There will be a Trivia Night March 31 at 7 p.m. at Bella’s Restaurant, located at 1152 Main St, Coventry. Come and test your knowledge of Rhode Island history and have a great time doing it.
