Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Garden Club

The Chatham Village Garden Club will meet May 6 at 7 p.m. at the EBC house. The evening’s program will be “Betty’s Bees Workshop” presented by beekeeper, Betty Menuicci.

East Greenwich Leisure Learning

Do you enjoy learning something new in a fun and friendly environment? East Greenwich Leisure Learning, membership organization now in its 36th year, welcomes interested adults, regardless of residency, to join them by registering for their upcoming six-week series of 12 lectures and programs. The dates for the spring series are May 8 and 15, with morning and afternoon presentation each day. Topics of lectures vary from the practical to the historical, especially Rhode Island history, and anything in between. Programs are held at St. Luke’s Parish House on the corner of Peirce and Church Sts. The registration fee for the series is $15, and members sign up for the entire series. Pre-registration is required. Those interested may contact the registrar at 828-0978.

Spring Craft Fair

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter is hosting the 3rd Annual Crafting for Critters Spring Craft Fair and Bake Sale May 10 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A wide variety of vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares including stained glass, Silpada jewelry, handmade candles, chocolates, crafts for animal lovers, baby gifts, original paintings, handmade jewelry, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef housewares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, clothing, books and more. Stamp Out Hunger

Leave a bag of healthy, non-perishable food near your mailbox by 8 a.m. on May 10, and your local letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and local food pantries as part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Book & Bake Sale

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave., is having a book and bake sale May 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and May 11 from 11 a.m.- 12 noon. Thousand of gently used hardcovers, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, videos, CDs and puzzles. Fresh homemade baked goods available for your Mother’s Day celebrations.

Pasta Dinner

The Pet Refuge, with the help of the North Kingstown firefighters, is hosting a pasta dinner May 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 1515 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown. Come and enjoy a traditional pasta and meatballs meal and try the Italian rustic sausage with its own homemade sauce donated by “Becoming Italian Today.” There will be a silent auction and a raffle. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 (under 3 is free). Mother’s Day Breakfast

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company, 645 Oakland Beach Ave., will have a Mother’s Day Breakfast May 11 from 7-11 a.m. All are welcome. All you can eat scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash, home fries, coffee, toast children. Price is $8 per person, 5 years and under are free. Gorton Luncheon

The Gorton High School monthly luncheon will be held May 14 at Timmy’s Waterfront Restaurant, One Bay Avenue, Oakland Beach, at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15. All Gorton High School classmates from 1941-1955 are welcome. Norwood General Meeting

A general meeting will be held May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The agenda will include a community police report followed by a presentation by Master Gardener Barbara Morgan, who will present an interesting presentation on all facets of planting to harvesting and answer any questions related to your gardening questions. There will also be a flower and plant swap at the end of the meeting.  For more details, email norwoodna@verizon.net. All are welcome.

Community Tag Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will host its annual Spring Village-Wide Yard Sale May 17 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. All Conimicut residents/businesses are welcome to participate at no cost by calling 524-8404 or by emailing ginbarham1@aol.com with the address where you will set up. CVA will advertise statewide. Maps showing all participating homes will be available for download at www.conimicut.org and on Craigslist after May 14 and at many participating homes the day of the event. There is no cost to participate.

The Narragansett Spring Scramble For SIDS will take place May 23 with an 8 a.m. start at North Kingstown Public Golf Course. The divorce group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Grief Support Group

Those who are suffering from the loss of a loved one are welcome to come to one or all of the grief support sessions that will be held at the Christ Church Office Condo (61 Cedar Ave., Unit 6, East Greenwich) every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. through June 1. The meetings will begin with a video featuring interviews with leading authors, counselors, speakers and pastors covering a variety of topics to help you deal with your grief, followed by discussion and sharing. Clothing Collection Drive

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State is holding a collection drive for gently used clothing and small household items. Donations help to raise funds to support mentoring programs for boys and girls throughout the state. They offer convenient free home pick-up of donations and provide a tax receipt. Scholarship Available

The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces its annual Academic and Community Achievement Award. This $1,000 scholarship is available to Warwick high school seniors who have demonstrated an active involvement in community service. The deadline for submission is April 30.

New Gallery Hours at WMOA

The main gallery at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick, is now open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. so exhibits are available to school groups, home-school students and anyone who can stop by on their lunch hour. The main gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for those who work during the week.
