Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Country Line Dancing with Tami Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m.

East Greenwich Leisure Learning

Do you enjoy learning something new in a fun and friendly environment? East Greenwich Leisure Learning, membership organization now in its 36th year, welcomes interested adults, regardless of residency, to join them by registering for their upcoming six-week series of 12 lectures and programs. The dates for the spring series are May 8 and 15, with morning and afternoon presentation each day. Topics of lectures vary from the practical to the historical, especially Rhode Island history, and anything in between. Programs are held at St. Luke’s Parish House on the corner of Peirce and Church Sts. The registration fee for the series is $15, and members sign up for the entire series. Spring Craft Fair

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter is hosting the 3rd Annual Crafting for Critters Spring Craft Fair and Bake Sale May 10 at the Buttonwoods Community Center, 3027 West Shore Road, Warwick, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. A wide variety of vendors will be gathered under one roof selling their wares including stained glass, Silpada jewelry, handmade candles, chocolates, crafts for animal lovers, baby gifts, original paintings, handmade jewelry, Wildtree herbs, Pampered Chef housewares, baked goods, all natural dog treats, clothing, books and more. Admission is free. Food and refreshments will be available. No pets allowed in facility. For more information call 467-2692.

Stamp Out Hunger

Leave a bag of healthy, non-perishable food near your mailbox by 8 a.m. on May 10, and your local letter carrier will pick it up and deliver it to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank and local food pantries as part of the Stamp Out Hunger food drive, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Book & Bake Sale

Pilgrim Lutheran Church, 1817 Warwick Ave., is having a book and bake sale May 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and May 11 from 11 a.m.- 12 noon. Thousand of gently used hardcovers, paperbacks, fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, videos, CDs and puzzles. Fresh homemade baked goods available for your Mother’s Day celebrations.

Pasta Dinner

The Pet Refuge, with the help of the North Kingstown firefighters, is hosting a pasta dinner May 10 from 5-8 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, 1515 Ten Rod Road, North Kingstown. Come and enjoy a traditional pasta and meatballs meal and try the Italian rustic sausage with its own homemade sauce donated by “Becoming Italian Today.” There will be a silent auction and a raffle. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 (under 3 is free). Tickets may be purchased in advance at The Pet Refuge, 500 Stony Lane, North Kingstown; from the firefighters at 8150 Post Road, North Kingstown and 6445 Post Road; and from the North Kingstown Animal Hospital, 3736 Quaker Lane, North Kingstown. Mother’s Day Breakfast

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company, 645 Oakland Beach Ave., will have a Mother’s Day Breakfast May 11 from 7-11 a.m. All are welcome. All you can eat scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, hash, home fries, coffee, toast children. Price is $8 per person, 5 years and under are free. For tickets call 737-4786 or they can be purchased at door.

Hi-Lo-Jack League

A new session of Hi-Lo-Jack is starting on May 13. Everyone wishing to play arrive before 12:30 p.m. at the Buttonwoods Community Center or call Ray Walsh at 497-8097. Two dollars weekly with 10 cents up, 18-week league, all money collected goes back to players and all players get a lunch at the banquet.

Gorton Luncheon

The Gorton High School monthly luncheon will be held May 14 at Timmy’s Waterfront Restaurant, One Bay Avenue, Oakland Beach, at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15. All Gorton High School classmates from 1941-1955 are welcome. Norwood General Meeting

A general meeting will be held May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The agenda will include a community police report followed by a presentation by Master Gardener Barbara Morgan, who will present an interesting presentation on all facets of planting to harvesting and answer any questions related to your gardening questions. There will also be a flower and plant swap at the end of the meeting.  For more details, email norwoodna@verizon.net. All are welcome.

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held May 15 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing the Cause for Paws car show to be held on June 8 and wrap-up for the craft fair to be held on May 10. Community Tag Sale

The Conimicut Village Association will host its annual Spring Village-Wide Yard Sale May 17 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. All Conimicut residents/businesses are welcome to participate at no cost by calling 524-8404 or by emailing ginbarham1@aol.com with the address where you will set up. CVA will advertise statewide. Maps showing all participating homes will be available for download at www.conimicut.org and on Craigslist after May 14 and at many participating homes the day of the event. There is no cost to participate.

Voices of RI Meeting

The Voices of RI chapter of the Colon Cancer Alliance will hold their next monthly meeting at 10 a.m. May 17 in the small meeting room of the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Silver Tea Party

A Silver Tea Party will be held May 18 from 3-4:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 111 West Shore Rd., Call 737-3127. Cost is $8 per person, children under 6 are free. Join in for a fun time for mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmas, aunts and friends. Dress up in your best, or come as you’d like in support of this new fundraising activity for St. Mark’s. Prizes for Most Beautiful, Most Flowery, Best Mother & Daughter Matching Hats and Weirdest. Scramble For SIDS

The Narragansett Spring Scramble For SIDS will take place May 23 with an 8 a.m. start at North Kingstown Public Golf Course. Soft spikes only; $125 per player included continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., group & individual prizes, awards ceremony, raffles, longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest, cart, streak fry with a special presentation to honor Eagle.
