Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Tri-City Elks

Country Line Dancing with Tami Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6. There will be no class May 26, Memorial Day. Come and have some fun.

Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2014/2015 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session to families. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Hoxsie, Wickes and Norwood areas. Conimicut Village Memorial Bricks

The Conimicut Village Association is still accepting orders for memorial bricks. Bricks can be used to commemorate a life event or to honor a person, living or deceased. The engraved bricks are installed along the walkway at the scenic overlook at the ocean end of Beach Avenue. Norwood General Meeting

A general meeting will be held May 15 at 7 p.m. at the Norwood Boys & Girls Club, 43 Frederick St. The agenda will include a community police report followed by a presentation by Master Gardener Barbara Morgan, who will present an interesting presentation on all facets of planting to harvesting and answer any questions related to your gardening questions. There will also be a flower and plant swap at the end of the meeting.  For more details, email norwoodna@

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held May 15 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing the Cause for Paws car show to be held on June 8 and wrap-up for the craft fair to be held on May 10. Plant Sale

On Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon, the fifth annual plant sale sponsored by the Chatham Village Garden Club in Warwick will be held at the Buttonwoods Senior Center at 3027 West Shore Rd., Warwick. There will be a large selection of perennials, annuals, vegetables, bushes and some trees, and this year they will have a bake sale.

Conimicut Village-Wide Yard Sale

Conimicut Village will hold its annual village-wide yard sale this Saturday, May 17 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Over 26 homes are participating. The rain date is Sunday, May 18 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The map can be downloaded from www.conimicut.org or from Craigslist. Also, many homes participating will have the map. Come shop and find a treasure. Voices of RI Meeting

The Voices of RI chapter of the Colon Cancer Alliance will hold their next monthly meeting at 10 a.m. May 17 in the small meeting room of the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick. The Chatham Village Garden Club holds their annual plant and bake sale May 17 at the Buttonwoods Community Center from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Silver Tea Party

A Silver Tea Party will be held May 18 from 3-4:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s Church, 111 West Shore Rd., Call 737-3127. Cost is $8 per person, children under 6 are free. Join in for a fun time for mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmas, aunts and friends. Dress up in your best, or come as you’d like in support of this new fundraising activity for St. Mark’s. Prizes for Most Beautiful, Most Flowery, Best Mother & Daughter Matching Hats and Weirdest. Gaspee Seniors

Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes the Tockwotton Community Chorus in a musical celebration of spring May 21 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson Building cafeteria.

Narragansett Spring Scramble For SIDS

The Narragansett Spring Scramble For SIDS will take place May 23 with an 8 a.m. start at North Kingstown Public Golf Course. Soft spikes only; $125 per player included continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., group & individual prizes, awards ceremony, raffles, longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest, cart, streak fry with a special presentation to honor Eagle. SPRED Liturgy

St. Benedict’s Parish, 135 Beach Ave., will hold a SPRED Liturgy at the 4 p.m. Mass on May 24. SPRED (Special Religious Development) is a religious program for the physically- or mentally-challenged. They have special friends from St. Benedict’s, St. Kevin’s, St. Timothy’s, St. Mary’s in Cranston, St. Francis of Assisi. St. Gregory the Great, St. Clement’s as well as St. Francis de Sales who will be preparing the altar and bringing the gifts during the Mass. All are welcome to attend the Mass and the open house that will follow, where refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall.

Toy Yard Sale

The Armenian Evangelical Church, 180 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, is holding its annual toy yard sale May 24 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Choose from a wide selection of toys, books, games and tapes. Rain date is May 31.

Plant & Yard Sale

Divorce Group

The divorce group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. The sessions are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. Natick Family & Friend Gathering

A “Natick Family and Friends Gathering” will be held May 31 at the West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom Street, West Warwick. An evening of music, dancing and fun follows the 6 p.m. start of an enjoyable evening that includes a full course dinner prepared by the  Inn. Music will be provided by The Reggie Centracchio Quintet. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Photographic Society of RI

The Photographic Society of Rhode Island welcomes camera enthusiasts of all abilities. Meetings are held on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. For more information visit www.psri.us.

Grief Support Group

Those who are suffering from the loss of a loved one are welcome to come to one or all of the grief support sessions that will be held at the Christ Church Office Condo (61 Cedar Ave., Unit 6, East Greenwich) every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. through June 1. The meetings will begin with a video featuring interviews with leading authors, counselors, speakers and pastors covering a variety of topics to help you deal with your grief, followed by discussion and sharing. Summer Internships

for College Students

College students are still being interviewed for summer internships, and Warwick Museum of Art is especially interested in education majors who enjoy working with children for its Summer Art Camp, and communications majors who want real-world experience writing articles, press releases and Facebook posts. These are unpaid internships, but WMOA is participating in a state-run program that provides small stipends for students who attend out-of-state colleges.
