Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Tri-City Elks

Country Line Dancing with Tami Mondays from 7-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6. There will be no class May 26, Memorial Day. Come and have some fun.

Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2014/2015 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session to families. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Hoxsie, Wickes and Norwood areas. If you are or know of a family with a child who will be 4 years old by September 1 and are interested in this program, call Carol Maloney at 734-3426 or email at Maloneyc@warwickschools.org.

Conimicut Village Memorial Bricks

The Conimicut Village Association is still accepting orders for memorial bricks. Bricks can be used to commemorate a life event or to honor a person, living or deceased. The engraved bricks are installed along the walkway at the scenic overlook at the ocean end of Beach Avenue. Gaspee Seniors

On May 20 the Gaspee Seniors will be celebrating Armed Forces Day at the Buttonwoods Community Center. The guest speaker will be Camille Vella Wilkinson, who served in the armed service. They will meet at 1:15 and new people are always welcome. Call Mary Nolan at 941-5507.

Tockwotton Community Chorus

Trudeau Memorial Center welcomes the Tockwotton Community Chorus in a musical celebration of spring May 21 at 1:15 p.m. in the Patterson Building cafeteria.

Steak Fry

Support the East Greenwich Animal Protection League at the first Summer Kick-Off Steak Fry on May 23. Enjoy a steak dinner with summer favorites, a cash bar and music by Ray Renzi. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. at the William Shields Post of the American Legion, 650 West Shore Road, Warwick. Narragansett Spring Scramble

For SIDS

The Narragansett Spring Scramble For SIDS will take place May 23 with an 8 a.m. start at North Kingstown Public Golf Course. Soft spikes only; $125 per player included continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m., group & individual prizes, awards ceremony, raffles, longest drive, closest to the pin, putting contest, cart, streak fry with a special presentation to honor Eagle. Mixed groups welcome. Raffle with a chance to win a golf vacation in Catskills worth $500. Win two free tickets that include two nights lodging, meals and golf. SPRED Liturgy

St. Benedict’s Parish, 135 Beach Ave., will hold a SPRED Liturgy at the 4 p.m. Mass on May 24. SPRED (Special Religious Development) is a religious program for the physically- or mentally-challenged. They have special friends from St. Benedict’s, St. Kevin’s, St. Timothy’s, St. Mary’s in Cranston, St. Francis of Assisi. St. Gregory the Great, St. Clement’s as well as St. Francis de Sales who will be preparing the altar and bringing the gifts during the Mass. All are welcome to attend the Mass and the open house that will follow, where refreshments will be served in the Parish Hall.

Toy Yard Sale

The Armenian Evangelical Church, 180 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, is holding its annual toy yard sale May 24 from 9 a.m.-12 noon. Choose from a wide selection of toys, books, games and tapes. Rain date is May 31.

Plant & Yard Sale

The Coventry Historical Society will hold a plant and yard sale May 24 from 8 a.m.-12 noon at the corner of Read School House Road and Route 117 in Coventry. Call Virginia Soucy at 397-3661 for more information or to donate items for the yard sale. Donations are gladly accepted.

Giant Yard Sale

There will be a giant indoor/outdoor yard sale May 24 from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Trinity Church, 139 Ocean Ave., Cranston. Lunch will be served at noon.

New England Steel Guitar

New England Steel Guitar Country will feature the band Crossfire May 25 at Post 15, Main St., East Greenwich. The kitchen will be open.

Divorce Group

The divorce group is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. The sessions are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. Sampson Air Force Base Meeting

The monthly meeting of Sampson Air Force Base Veterans will be held May 27 at 1300 hours. All Air Force veterans, especially Sampson AFB vets, are welcome to the Sampson AFB Veterans Squadron. The squadron holds monthly luncheons on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Pinelli’s Italian Cafe, 701 Quaker Lane, West Warwick.

Pasta Dinner & Xbox One Raffle

Natick Family & Friend Gathering

A “Natick Family and Friends Gathering” will be held May 31 at the West Valley Inn, 4 Blossom Street, West Warwick. An evening of music, dancing and fun follows the 6 p.m. start of an enjoyable evening that includes a full course dinner prepared by the  Inn. Music will be provided by The Reggie Centracchio Quintet. Festival & Carnival

7th Annual Classic Car Show

The 7th Annual “Cause for Paws” Classic Car Show will take place June 8 at 171 Service Place, located at 171 Service Rd. (off Jefferson Blvd.), Warwick. Rain date is July 20. Antique cars, classic cars to 1989, rods, muscle cars and all-year Corvettes are invited to exhibit. Vehicle registration is from 9 a.m.-12 noon, with free goody bags and dash plaques to the first 100 entries. The entry fee is $15 per car. Spectators are free to roam the show. Enjoy oldies music by Cruisin’ Bruce Palmer. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. in 28 classes, including Best of Show, Peoples Choice and Best Club Participation. There will be door prizes and raffles, including a 50/50 raffle. Bring a can of wet dog food or wet cat food for the shelter animals and receive an additional door prize ticket. Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Cruise Night is weather permitting; check the Warwick Lions Cruise Night website for cancellations.

Photographic Society of RI

The Photographic Society of Rhode Island welcomes camera enthusiasts of all abilities. Meetings are held on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. For more information visit www.psri.us.

Grief Support Group

Those who are suffering from the loss of a loved one are welcome to come to one or all of the grief support sessions that will be held at the Christ Church Office Condo (61 Cedar Ave., Unit 6, East Greenwich) every Sunday from 2-4 p.m. through June 1. The meetings will begin with a video featuring interviews with leading authors, counselors, speakers and pastors covering a variety of topics to help you deal with your grief, followed by discussion and sharing. Summer Internships

for College Students

College students are still being interviewed for summer internships, and Warwick Museum of Art is especially interested in education majors who enjoy working with children for its Summer Art Camp, and communications majors who want real-world experience writing articles, press releases and Facebook posts. These are unpaid internships, but WMOA is participating in a state-run program that provides small stipends for students who attend out-of-state colleges. New Gallery Hours at WMOA

The main gallery at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick, is now open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. so exhibits are available to school groups, home-school students and anyone who can stop by on their lunch hour. The main gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for those who work during the week.
