Meadowbrook Bingo

Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Tri-City Elks

Preschool Registration

The Title I Office for Warwick Public Schools announced that Preschool registration for the 2014/2015 school year has started. The preschool program is fully funded through Title I. The program will run four half days each week with a parent component every other Friday. They are offering a morning or an afternoon session to families. Parents are required to attend every other Friday for informative workshops to support family learning and kindergarten readiness. This program is free of charge and is offered to families living in the Oakland Beach, Hoxsie, Wickes and Norwood areas. If you are or know of a family with a child who will be 4 years old by September 1 and are interested in this program, call Carol Maloney at 734-3426 or email at Maloneyc@warwickschools.org.

Conimicut Village Memorial Bricks

The Conimicut Village Association is still accepting orders for memorial bricks. Bricks can be used to commemorate a life event or to honor a person, living or deceased. The engraved bricks are installed along the walkway at the scenic overlook at the ocean end of Beach Avenue. Summer Art Camp

Ages 6-12 will have unique ways to explore their creativity this summer at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road. New art sessions include comic books, oil pastels, wearable art, and art & poetry in nine lines. Plus, favorite sessions like acrylic painting, ceramics, drawing and jewelry making will be offered again. The Apponaug Area Improvement Association presents its 4th Annual Music for a Summer Night Concert Series on the front steps of Warwick City Hall 6:30-8 p.m. The schedule is as follows: June 12 Neal Vitullo & Dave Howard Blues; Thursday, June 26; Reggie Centracchio Night Life Orchestra Big Band Sound; July 10 Joe Esposito Timeless Classics; July 24 Saucy Jack Band Acoustic Rock; August 7 Bobby Justin Classic Rock ’n Roll; Aug. 21 Ten Rod Ramblers Blues & Rock. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Friendship Hall of Warwick Central Baptist Church Hall across from City Hall.

RI Pink Heels

To benefit the RI Chapter of Pink Heals in your community, the RI Pink Heals Meeting House Committee has set the June dates for the center to be open available to survivors and women in treatment. Pasta Dinner & Magic Show

Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., is having a pasta dinner and magic show June 14 at 5 p.m. Adult tickets are $12, senior citizens $10, children under the age of 10 with their parents will be a maximum charge of $35. Yard Sale

The North Kingstown Women’s Club will hold a yard sale June 14 at 133 Chatworth Road (located off Haverhill Ave. across from Jitters on Rt. 1S) North Kingstown. The yard sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include such items as books, kitchen items, knickknacks, etc. No early birds please.

Warwick Figure Skaters

Warwick Figure Skaters will hold an open registration June 14 and 15 from 12-l p.m. at Warburton Arena (back rink), 975 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Their learn-to-skate group lesson programs taught by professional instructors will begin June 25 for nine weeks. Club information is available on their website, www.warwickfs.org.

Buttonwoods Crime Watch

Group Meeting

Attention all Buttonwoods residents. Please join the very first Buttonwoods Crime Watch community meeting, where you will have the opportunity to meet the Buttonwoods Crime Watch Group and the district Community Police Officer, Danny Maggiacomo. There will be snacks, a raffle for some great prizes, a special presentation by Officer Maggiacomo and a chance to mingle with your Buttonwoods neighbors. The meeting will be held at the Warwick Police Station in the Community Room on June 17 at 7 p.m. All Buttonwoods residents are invited to attend this event. Also, they have joined next door neighbor, a great online communication tool for reporting suspicious activity in the neighborhood. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held June 19 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will get the final figures and comments for the Cause for Paws car show that was held on June 8. East Greenwich Animal Protection League

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League will be at the Warwick Mall Community Booth for a Summer Bake Sale on June 21 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Baked goods, dog items, including dog bandanas, stuffed toys, etc. and for your cat catnip items, toys and many more great items will be for sale.  They will also have pictures of the cats and dogs that are available for adoption as well as information about the league. Dropoff of baked goods will be June 20 at 60 Middle Road, East Greenwich, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. or June 2 after 10 a.m. at the Warwick Mall Community Booth. EGAPL is a non-profit and all volunteer league. Books & More 3 Day Sale

The Friends of the West Warwick Public Library will be holding a Books & More Bash for three days in June. Used books, CDs, DVDs and other media will be on sale for bargain prices. The dates are June 20 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., June 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and June 23 from 1-8 p.m. All funds raised during the book sale will go towards supporting library programs and services. St. Benedict’s Church

100th Anniversary Gala

On Sept. 27 St. Benedict Church, 135 Beach Avenue, will be having their 100th anniversary gala. It will begin with 4 p.m. Mass and be followed by a spectacular celebration in the newly refurbished and handicapped accessible Parish Center. The church is looking for former priests, deacons, principals, nuns, teachers, students, choir members and former and present parishioners. They would like your pictures and past history to make this a memorable and uplifting event not only for the parish but also the faith community. Craft Vendors Wanted

The Conimicut Village Association is seeking vendors for their annual craft fair to be held at Conimicut Point Park Aug. 16 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. The vendor fee is $25. Call 524-8404 for more information and/or an application form.

Cruise Nights

Every Tuesday until September, the Greater Warwick Lions will be holding Cruising with the Oldies at Oakland Beach in Warwick from 4 p.m. to dusk. Sweet antique cars, DJ Dom playing the oldies, food vendors, raffles and prizes all with an ocean view. All proceeds benefit the Lions’ charities, Ronald McDonald House, children with cancer, Insight, children and adults in the community in need of glasses, scholarships awarded to Warwick students and JONAH. Cruise Night is weather permitting; check the Warwick Lions Cruise Night website for cancellations.

Photographic Society of RI

The Photographic Society of Rhode Island welcomes camera enthusiasts of all abilities. Meetings are held on the second, third and fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave. For more information visit www.psri.us.

Summer Internships

for College Students

College students are still being interviewed for summer internships, and Warwick Museum of Art is especially interested in education majors who enjoy working with children for its Summer Art Camp, and communications majors who want real-world experience writing articles, press releases and Facebook posts. These are unpaid internships, but WMOA is participating in a state-run program that provides small stipends for students who attend out-of-state colleges. New Gallery Hours at WMOA

The main gallery at Warwick Museum of Art, 3259 Post Road, Warwick, is now open Tuesdays through Fridays 10 a.m.-5 p.m. so exhibits are available to school groups, home-school students and anyone who can stop by on their lunch hour. The main gallery is also open on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. for those who work during the week.
